Journey to the center of the earth or glacier! - Bjarni was our guide and he made sure we were ready for a tour that included cold temperatures and winds! It was a fun day and since we had returned from a northern lights tour at 2am we had little time for sleep. Our first stop was at the waterfalls which were like falls we had never seen before. The water was from the glacier and was moving at warp speed! It was beautiful. Then we were on our way to the ice cave. We were prepared for what to expect and after a warm bowl of tomato soup we were fitted for boots and boarded the bus. The trip to the glacier took about an hour and a half and there were markers along the way showing where the glacier was in 1955 1969 and on to today. The glacier has definitely shrunk. The wind and the temperature on the glacier were bone chilling, but once inside the cave there was no wind so things seemed a little warmer. Learning about the glacier and seeing the depth of the ice was fascinating. It gives you lots to think about with global warming. Our trip back to our hotel was made quicker because Bjarni was not only a great guide but also a very talented storyteller! Great tour, exceptional guide
