Interesting! - This place has everything you would want to know about the Northern Lights. There’s big screen videos and interactive exhibits. They explain why the Northern Lights don’t look like the photos you’ve seen. We enjoyed the virtual reality viewing. We visited this museum while waiting for the Lava show to start just down the street; it’s a short walk. And it’s a family run business.

The next best thing to seeing them in real life was so chilled I floated out of there! - Visited Reykjavik during the spring equinox period hoping to see the northern lights alas it was too cloudy so I visited the northern lights centre instead. It was interesting to learn about the different cultures & what they think about the aurora. However, my favourite parts were lying on a giant bean bag bed watching the footage of the northern lights from various locations all over Iceland & then relaxing in an egg chair with the VR headset. It really does seem the next best thing to seeing them in real life & it was a very enjoyable hour or so, so much so that I was so chilled when I left I floated out of there!

A journey with and across the Northern Lights in Iceland - Since we were on our way to the lava show, we passed the Aurora Northern Lights. After visiting the lava show we decided to visit it. The visit was completely worthwhile for us - especially noteworthy - was the use of 3-D glasses. The employee who worked on Wednesday 07.05.2025 actively supported us i.e. sending our self-portraits to our mail addresses. Thanks again.

Highly educational and interesting experience! - I went here with my husband for our honeymoon because we were out of season to see Northern lights while in Iceland. It was a really neat experience to learn about the Northern lights and I enjoyed all of the audio tour stops throughout. Lots of information that I did not know before, like the difference between the colors with your natural eye and a camera. Highly recommend a visit it’s a great exhibit!

All about the Auroras! - Competent and motivated guys have created this beautiful center, a reference point for newbies of the auroras... they will lead you in the historical-folkloric and scientific aspects, also dispensing useful information for observation and photography. Visit also suitable for children, thanks to interactive experiences.

The Only LIghts We Saw - We visited this museum on our first day in Iceland. It was fun to gain insight into what makes the Northern Lights and I enjoyed the peaceful slideshow of gorgeous photos of them on a big screen. The VR experience in the pods was a fun way to end of the visit. Our picture with the lights from this visit is the only one we got on this trip since it was too cloudy to view them at night. Glad we got it!

Next best to the real thing - A bit underwhelming but an option if you can’t see the “real” thing. We were there on a super quiet day so not sure how the VR experience would be with more people (maybe a long line?).

An interesting experience but not a must see - The centre is split into a number of different exhibitions: an explanation of what the Northern Lights are; a dark room playing brief videos of the Northern Lights from different locations around Iceland, and a VR experience, similar to that offered by the videos in the dark room. The centre is interesting, but in my opinion it’s not a must see if you’re in Reykjavik. We had entrance included as part of a Northern Lights tour, and personally I would not visit if the experience were not included in the cost. It’s not bad, not at all, it’s just a little dull in my opinion. There is also a cafe which doubles as a gift shop. Bottom line: an interesting experience but not a must see.

Go to the Lava Show instead! - When I booked in November last year, my ticket said the show was open until at least 6pm. Going there today I didn't think to check times, assuming they would be the same as I had received no correspondence to say otherwise (unlike another experience who sent me helpful reminder emails) - arrived just after 5pm to find it shut. Checked website when I got back to my hotel and sure enough, they shut at 5pm during May. So I've lost around £60. Maybe it's my fault and I should have double checked, but how hard is it to send people an email advising of time changes when you know when they booked the ticket and when it was booked for? Extremely disappointing but luckily the amazing Lava Show made up for it - go there instead!
