Arrival in Iceland
Keflavik - Arrive in Iceland and proceed independently to your hotel in the capital for your initial overnight stay. Spend the evening familiarizing yourself with Reykjavík — explore its vibrant downtown, enjoy meals in cozy restaurants, or visit local boutiques and galleries.
Golden Circle Day Tour & Optional Evening Northern Lights Excursion
Thingvellir - Set off on an adventure through the renowned Golden Circle, one of Iceland’s most famous sightseeing routes. This full-day guided tour takes you to the tectonic rift valley at Þingvellir National Park, the bubbling geothermal area of Geysir where Strokkur geyser erupts frequently, and the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall, often surrounded by glistening winter ice.
The day begins at Þingvellir, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates converge. Known for its striking landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and historical importance as the site of Iceland’s first parliament, it offers both natural beauty and cultural richness.
Note: The Golden Circle Tour is available on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Therefore, it may not always occur on day 2 of your trip — the specific day will depend on the weekday you book. This will also influence the sequence of any optional tours you decide to include in your itinerary.
Geysir - The Geysir Geothermal Area features steaming vents, bubbling hot springs, and the renowned Strokkur geyser, which erupts every few minutes. Visitors can witness Iceland’s geothermal energy up close in this dynamic and ever-evolving landscape.
Gullfoss Waterfall - Gullfoss, or the “Golden Falls,” is one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls. Cascading in two dramatic stages into a rugged canyon, it creates powerful mist and rainbows on sunny days, making it a highlight of the Golden Circle route.
Reykjavik - For those visiting during the darker months, an optional Northern Lights evening tour can be added. Expert guides monitor aurora and weather conditions, guiding you away from city lights to the best possible viewing spots. The excursion is typically planned for your second night, with flexibility to reschedule if conditions are unfavorable.
Optional Blue Lagoon Visit
Blue Lagoon - Today, you have the opportunity to relax in the world-renowned Blue Lagoon. Surrounded by lava fields, its warm, mineral-rich waters provide a truly soothing and unique experience. This visit is available as an optional upgrade and can be booked in advance. Included are return transfer, mud mask, rented towel, and 1 drink.
Optional South Shore Adventure
Seljalandsfoss - Enjoy a free day in Reykjavík or explore Iceland’s dramatic southern coast on an optional full-day guided tour. Highlights include the cascading Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, the striking black sands of Reynisfjara beach, and breathtaking views of glaciers and volcanoes as you travel past farmlands and rugged cliffs.
The first stop is Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland’s most photographed waterfalls, famous for the path that allows visitors to walk behind the cascading water. Surrounded by lush cliffs, it offers a magical view at sunset when the light shines through the mist.
Skogafoss - Next, admire the majestic Skógafoss Waterfall. It is one of the most powerful waterfalls in the country, 60 m high and 25 m wide. Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is usually visible on sunny days.
Reynisfjara Beach - Then, visit the black sand beach at Reynisfjara to view the geological formations and the crashing waves. Be cautious not to step too close as the waves can be dangerous.
Vik - Before returning to Reykjavík, visit Vík í Mýrdal, a seafront village that sits in the shadow of Mýrdalsjökull glacier, which covers the Katla volcano.
The drive back to Reykjavík is about 3 hours with some stops along the way.
Optional Reykjavík Food Tour
Reykjavik - Enjoy a free day in Reykjavík or conclude your Icelandic experience with the Reykjavík Food Tour — a fun and flavorful walking tour through the heart of the city. Taste traditional Icelandic dishes like lamb soup, skyr, and even fermented shark, alongside local delicacies at carefully chosen eateries. This optional tour offers a perfect blend of culture, storytelling, and culinary adventure.
