Great trip for a half day - Good trip for a morning out. The tour guide was really informative and fun. Make sure you wear good footwear though, there are pathways but it was uneven and a bit slippy in places. Great lighting made for good photo ops too.

Interesting and mysterious. - Little tour bus pick up from BSI bus terminal, left at 9am and around 40 mins later we were at the lava tunnel. Toilet available and a little shop. Our tour started at 10 and our guide Francesca was excellent. She really made this an enjoyable and interesting experience. Definitely take sturdy shoes with good grip as can be slippy at points but otherwise a very easy walk through.

Great experience! Educational and fun! - I took my 10-year-old daughter. We are from the states; I found this tour to be fun and interactive for her. She and I learned a lot about the geology of how the lava tunnel was created. The guide was engaging and knowledgeable; she was very friendly and approachable. The guide also gave clear instructions and expectations of safety and protocols. I would do this tour again! Worth it!

Dimitri was a great tour guide! Cave was awesome! Definitely recommend. Do not use Reykjavík Excursion for transfers. - Dimitri was a fantastic tour guide! I absolutely loved the lava tunnel and it is a must see in Iceland. I would highly recommend and it was incredible to see. I loved it! In saying that, if you have any way to drive there yourself or get your own transportation, I would highly suggest that. We used Reykjavík Excursions for the transfer and it was a nightmare. They left us out in the cold for 45 minutes and never picked us up even after I called three times. Please please do not use them for transfer.

A must do! - This experience was the perfect balance after a few intense full-day trips out of Reykjavik. It felt immersive and memorable without taking over the entire day, and still left us plenty of time to enjoy the city afterwards. The journey through the lava fields and into the tunnel was genuinely impressive. The scale, textures and colours inside were unexpected, and the ice formations made it feel almost otherworldly. We learnt a lot along the way, but it never felt like a history lesson — it was engaging, relaxed and really well paced. Our guide played a huge part in that. Informative, entertaining and clearly passionate, they also shared some excellent local advice that helped shape the rest of our trip. There was one moment inside the tunnel that completely caught us off guard in the best possible way — a real highlight but i wont spoil it for you. We went on a morning tour, which worked brilliantly and set us up perfectly for the rest of the day. That said, during the winter months I’d suggest opting for an evening tour if you can, as it helps you maximise daylight hours for other activities.

What a sight - Loved the tour. It was a little hard to walk for one friend so difficulty on the rating was not correct. It said 1/5 which should have been a 2/5. Missed gin tasting do to the gin had only been in tunnel for 1 month but they should have had some other on hand to let us try. Guide was lovely and knew who stuff. Overall a 4 out of 5.
