Fantastic experience 👏 - Great experience. The tunnels are beautiful and the guide was really good. There's a part where the lights are turned off and it's such a unique sensory experience 😊 nature at it's absolute best. Your eyes struggle to take it all in. Highly recommend doing this after the lava show to get the full knowledge of what you're seeing.

Very cool experience! - Just a short ride from Reykjavik, the Lava Tunnel tour was a great half day trip (we squeezed it in the day we flew home). It was cool to see what's lurking beneath all the lava fields we had seen during our trip! Our guide was great, answered all our questions. The tunnel is wet from the outside elements but not slippery! Definitely geared to those that are used to hiking, they do provide trekking poles and crampons, and helmets are mandatory. Would definitely recommend!

Great for solo, couple, or group. - It was really fun with plenty of photo ops. If traveling alone, bring a selfie stick, and a clip on light.

High Value Tour - Family friendly activity experience! Joined this activity with family Nov 2025, the pickup and transfer from Reykjavík was worthwhile as the actual location is off the beaten path. Our guide Ian was very informative and ensured all our questions were answered. Highly recommended for other families!

Joourny into the darkness of a Lava Tunnel - The pickup and trip out to the Lava Tuneel went flawlessly. The hike into the tunnel was excellent. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and it was great to see the different colors of the lave stone and how it was made. Our guide had the ability to shut of the lights inside to give the true effect of the total darkness inside. Definitely a must when visiting Iceland.

It’s not far from... - It’s not far from Reykjavík just about 40 mins. Small visitor centre, no facilities except for toilets. Excellent guide very informative, it’s quite slippy and cold and lots of steps so be aware of that and ensure you have adequate footwear and clothing.

Very Interesting But I Was Scared The Whole Time. - It was amazing inside the tunnel and our tour guide was very funny and knowledgeable. However, I wouldn’t categorize this as an easy walk. Many of the rocks are wet and slippery. It might be easier to walk if it’s covered in snow but otherwise the “path” is quite treacherous. I would certainly recommend good hiking boots, walking stick, crampons, and good balance. If you’re not sure on your feet or used to walking on rocks I wouldn’t recommend — I was scared the whole time. It was beautiful and I’m glad I did it but I wish I would’ve known how shaky I would be on my feet the whole time. The iron platforms are only present for two little sections.
