Superjeep is the way to go. - We were skeptical of this company, because doing an Internet search won't find you the best company for something, just the company that is best at search engine optimization, and the local for-profit tourist information office will steer tourists to the best-paying companies. But, we figured we had limited information, so worst case we'd get suckered out of a lot of money. While we were waiting for our jeep to pick us up at Bus Stop #6, I noticed some thing in the sky - despite the city lights - and took a long exposure picture. There it was - prominent green Northern Lights, before our jeep arrived. Maybe we didn't need to jeep trip at all... Well, once we were in the jeep and barrelled over mountain roads, we got to a dark spot off road and got out to look. Our jeep was in a convoy with two others - ours was the smallest of the three. The Northern Lights were much more visible than in the city. They came and went. It was very cold and I got some good pictures, on my phone and my digital camera. After around 45 minutes, we packed up and I was satisfied, even though the trip was quite expensive. I thought we were returning, but we were only starting. We got to the edge of a lake, with no lights around, and got much more of a light show! Greens, purples, reds, visible without cameras - and even move vivid on the camera shots. We stayed there for about an hour and then headed back. On the way back, the leader of the convoy determined that a solar storm was coming and found a place to pull over off road. We all got out to an even more impressive light show, with bands of lights dancing across the sky. Granted, it was a clear night and the rating (a 3) was nature's doing. But Superjeep's monitoring of the situation and knowing where and when to pull over is something we couldn't do ourselves. Being able to go off-road a little helped get to good viewing spots. And our driver, Eric, was knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and professional.

Super super jeep aurora hunters!! - My sis and I booked this experience and didn't really know what to expect. Wow...our eyes just about popped out our head as we waited outside our hotel off the main street. Suddenly all lights blazing this total machine heads our way. We felt like we were on one of those extreme weather hunter programmes. We headed out of town pulling into areas off road to have a look. Our driver was very informative and gave us 50/50 chance if we were going to be successful. Fair enough it's mother nature and nobody tells her what to do! We headed towards the Blue Lagoon area and just waited. Great view, sky was bit cloudy but absolutely brilliant. Then they started to appear in dribs and drabs then got stronger and more intense....amazing to see. Freezing cold but hot chocolate with icelandic vodka to warm us up...mmmm. We also had photos taken that could be downloaded later for us to keep and as many as we wanted to pose for. Photos show up the colours of course much more than the naked eye but what a great experience to see them in action and a great keepsake. Thank you we had a brilliant night and great memories made.

Fantastic northern lights. - Great tour. Our guide was entertaining. Cloudy night and our guide found an opening in the sky to get a great display of the Northern Lights. Personal photos and access to photos by the guide at no additional cost. Highly recommend.

Easy rebooking and dedicated driver giving all 8 of us in the jeep the best experience. - Able to rebook easily when the tour was cancelled due to bad weather. When we finally went out the driver worked hard to find the best places to see the lights. We made several stops and were rewarded with seeing them with the naked eye plus some great photos. The driver also took photos of us with the lights behind and we were able to upload all these for free within 12 hours. Felt very safe in the big jeep on snowy remote roads!

It’s a must! - Truly Incredible!! This trip was well worth the money. We watched the huge buses roll up to our hotel but it was so freaking cool to see an off roading car pick us up. The guides were great about photos and getting the views. Fun surprise was the spiked hot chocolate at the end. 1000% recommend!!

Excellent trip, but dress warmly! - I have used Superjeep.is before for trips and they are a very experienced and wonderful company with some really amazing off-road vehicles. The Northern Lights tour is especially geared for this during the aurora season (September to April). As part of the way to see the Northern Lights is to go away from the light pollution of Reykjavik city, the 4WD vehicles enable you to go further off-track to areas of pure darkness. Our clearly Viking-descended driver, Keille (sp?) was wonderful, doing the hotel pickups/drop offs, explaining everything and of course handling the vehicle like the pro he is. You can trust the superjeep drivers to do their very best to get you to see the Northern Lights (to the point of multiple drivers communicating with each other on radio about where the best sightings are), whilst appreciating that even they cannot guarantee it! Only slight negative apart from this unpredictability is out of their control - by the very nature of when you need to go, it will be very cold, especially with wind-chill taken into account. Do take multiple layers, a good waterproof outer layer coat, hiking boots (uneven ground), hats, gloves, scarf etc. They will also warm you up at the end with hot chocolate, optionally fortified with vodka, and the vehicles are of course warm too. Tips: - 1. Dress warmly, as stated above 2. Book this for the first possible night (I booked it for the same night that I flew into Iceland) - as the aurora is unpredictable and not guaranteed, they will give you another shot at no additional cost if you are unable to see it at all on the first attempt. Thus, having your first attempt early in the visit will be beneficial - and keep the next night at least clear of anything booked, just in case (plus even if you are successful on the first night, it's a late finish at 1:30am - you won't want to do anything the next night anyway) 3. You need darkness, lack of cloud cover and ideally the moon at its lowest phase (as a competitor for light pollution) 4. Don't come to Iceland -just- for this, consider it an extra. It may not happen at all, there are also plenty of other amazing things to do in Iceland whilst you are here 5. Learn to use the correct settings on your own camera/smartphone before you go - have flash turned off and then exposure time turned up and ideally use a tripod, but if not a very steady hand (don't worry though even if you can't: the driver will take photos of you professionally and you can download these for no additional cost from the company drop-box later). I was able to take pretty decent photos of the aurora myself this way. 6. Don't be too disappointed if you don't see the sky lit up in greens, blues and purples with your naked eye. This is very rare, mostly it's a faint whitish glow (which you will get to recognise after a while), but you can immediately see an improved version though even a smartphone's camera.

Northern Lights Superjeep in Iceland - What was seen in a clear sky was plenty of stars and no lights. In a far distance as night grew some vague Northern lights were seen. This was only substantiated by cameras and not naked eyes. The experience of viewing directly the Northern lights was not there. I doubt the lights are seen fully in September or October. Booking is a farce and cheating to the tourists. The Superjeep was comfortable and but no clear explanations was given except through radio which was disturbing and not in clear voice.

Avoid!!! - For the higher price and advertising, we thought it was a superior Service but: - the driver mistaken our meeting point - has neither introduced nor made an introduction - a guide from another car said things impossible to understand on the radio - took us to see the authors in place with a lot of light and with a factory that produced steam (which hampered the visualization of the authors!!!!) - no one has ever introduced or welcomed or explained anything - the guide took quick photos of the groups and only yelled "NEXT!!!!" like a general - The photos got horrible - one of the most frustrating tourism experiences of my life - we had other experiences in much BETTER companies in Iceland. Avoid superjeeps
