Awesome snorkeling experience - Spectacular. Our guide, Domenica, was kind, caring and very attentive. She was incredibly detail oriented and was certain that all members of our group were well taken care of. The sights were awesome. Although the water was cold, we were comfortable and we could easily tolerate the icy waters. We highly recommend this tour.

Winter snorkeling is worth it. - The activity is fully prepared with all the equipment and skilled staff. Everyone was very helpful and it was a great time. There wasn’t a rush and we weren’t treated like cattle. The experience was well managed and worth it. But be ready for a long day. Our total time was 6 hrs.

Amazing experience - worth the money and trip - The whole experience was amazing, at first changing in the car park I did think “what has my partner done” but when we got into the water I had no regrets. Dominica was an amazing host and felt safe the whole way around. Except that she quite possibly got the worst photo of it me in existence. If you’re worried about the cold water, don’t be, you can’t feel it at all except a little in your hands.

Once in a lifetime experience! - Incredible experience. Our guide Dani was a total professional. My youngest has never snorkeled and it's not comfortable in a dry suit so anxiety started to kick in. He was attentive and calming - my son ended up loving the experience. Were we cold? Yes - but would do it again in a heartbeat!

Fantastic experience with Ioannis (John) - Wow what an experience, picked up on time, all kit provided, bit challenging getting the suits on but they keep you nice and worm. Brilliant instructor Ioannis (John). He had our safety as a priority with his full attention. Lots of photos taken and available for free download after. Highly recommended. Thanks Ioannis.

Great Experience - It was a grand experience that cannot be experienced elsewhere. Chris was an absolutely fantastic guide. He made us feel so very comfortable in what could have been a frightening experience. I am so very happy I took part in this snorkeling adventure. I’d recommend to anyone.

Miserable - Actually beyond terrible. Our dry suits did not keep us dry whatsoever. Sure, our hands, head, and wrists were always going to get wet, but we should not be pouring water out of our dry suits. My friend’s dry suit leaked in so much water to the point where the buoyancy in his suit was off and he was sinking. This is not safe and should’ve been checked before going in especially when they just glance at you to give you your dry suits. The reason that it isn’t 1 star is that in general the place is pretty cool and the hot chocolate after tastes good.

A brilliant idea but far too many of us for too few guides - I have emailed Arctic Adventures three times since this trip as well as completing their post trip online review. I have received no response whatsoever therefore I am reluctantly writing this review. The concept is good and the advertising was brilliant. So much so that over several years, my wife and I had resolved to come to Iceland specifically to do the Fissure swim. The reality unfortunately was somewhat different. There were far too many of us for too few guides On site we were collectively asked “are you on the coach”. There were two coaches (from Reykjavik) so this was unclear We were then what appeared randomly, handed a dry suit out of the side of a truck apparently containing the required clothing, and told to put it on When asked where to put it on we were told “Over at the wooden bench”. Here we were asked to put our removed clothing into bags and put them under the wooden bench – not exactly secure or weatherproof We were told to strip off unrequired outer-layer clothing in the open air – high up in Iceland with a strong cold wind blowing and no protection. We are aware that a building for changing-in was not allowed in the National Park, but surely a dedicated vehicle could have been provided In addition, the evident confusion among the organisers meant that we were hanging around waiting to be given the next item, or to be helped on with the first item, for a very long time We learned subsequently that each group of six of us was supposed to be allocated a guide. This did not happen Instead, as we needed help with anything we simply had to ask whoever we could Replies were often “You are not in my team so I can’t help you" Ultimately I got my inner dry suit on and found the zip all the way down the front was missing I was told this didn’t matter as the outer suit will cover it – so why did we have an inner suit which remained open and with little purpose It was also unclear where the foot area of this suit was meant to go – we were told “Over the heel” We were belatedly handed the outer neoprene wet suits and started to (try) and get into them. We were mostly assisted by other attendees but eventually the organisers did ensure that our ankle wrist and neck seals were made watertight. We moved down the galvanised iron steps onto the platform which was in the water My wife who had attended only to support me and take photographs from the path nearby, also got this far at the urging of the organisers who said “You’ve paid so you might as well at least get kitted out” so she did so and went as far as the platform, was photographed thus, but the organisers were aware that she did not want to enter the water, only observe. Our group of six was now five, I ended up as the last of our group to enter the water. Without a guide allocated, it seems that the overall organiser, Marcin, was allocated to be the guide of we five. How those four who were ahead were doing, I have no idea as Marcin was with me I entered the water face down and pushed myself off from the platform. By so doing, I witnessed the only view I had downwards and thank goodness I did because that is what it is all about and turned out to be my only chance to do so Next I heard Marcin’s voice shouting “I didn’t tell you that you could swim off” (which I hadn’t done), pulled me back and first said “Show me you can roll onto your back” I did so Marcin then asked me to turn downward and then back up a couple of times to prove to him that I could do it This was not as easy as normal diving with which I am very well familiar, because the over-size suit I was given was so large, so full of air and ridiculously buoyant without any kind of counterweight. At that point, in a loud voice Marcin said “I can’t spend any more time with you because I have 25 others to look after – how I really don’t know as all of the others had long gone and I believe we were the last group of the day This was in fact incorrect as he had been allocated to six of us, my wife who had come out, the four others and me He then pulled me back towards the steel ramp and told me to get out I therefore did not experience snorkelling in the Silfra Fissure In upshot, all of the negative experiences could have been averted if we had a clearly defined guide and if there were a lot less of us Money so often in safety and like matters, tends to dominate. I am told by others that the original intent was to be four divers per guide, not six The purpose of the foregoing is I hope, to cause the organisers to change the way they do things in the interests of us all.

Disappointing and Uncomfortable - The preparation for the snorkel was miserable. We waited around for half an hour in the inner suit, which had a thin layer at the bottom and no protection, leaving our feet frozen before we even started the experience. The video ad is a complete bait and switch—it gives the impression that we’d be getting ready in a van, but in reality, we were outside in the cold with very little help and poor bedside manner from the staff. My group of four was poorly fitted for our gear—our gloves, fins, inner suit, and dry suit were all two sizes too big. None of us had properly zipped suits, and our fins didn’t fit. One of my friends had their clothes completely soaked within minutes, despite being told that only our faces would get wet. Their child lost a fin, making it impossible for them to swim. My friend had to leave the experience just four minutes in because their inner clothes were completely wet. This was especially frustrating since the tour is advertised as an experience where inner clothes remain dry. When we asked for better-fitting clothing, as the zipper was broken for the inner suit, the staff, particularly Francesca, was rude and dismissive. The entire experience was miserable, with freezing hands and feet, making it far more uncomfortable than what was advertised. If you’re considering this tour, be prepared for the reality that you may get much wetter than expected, and customer service may not be helpful if issues arise. Given how far we traveled for this, I would have appreciated more honesty and professionalism. I hope Arctic Adventures improves its service and transparency for future customers.
