- Hólmsheiði - Our Amazing most popular! We ride in small groups and offer personal and friendly service! This tour is about 5-7 km, depending on the experience of the riders. It is suitable for beginners and for those with more experience as we can choose between routes in the area. We will either ride on a beautiful and smooth riding path along the Redhills or, for a group of more experienced riders, we will ride by Rauðarvatn. On both routes, you will enjoy natural riding paths and a wonderful setting for horseback riding where you will get to know the friendly Icelandic horse. Total tour duration is 2,5 hours,1,5-2 hours riding. for beginners and experienced riders.NOTE: We only have pickup from Hotels,guesthouse and BSI Bus terminal reykjavik.

Did I just become a horse girl? - I originally booked this tour because my husband likes horses + has some experience with them, and we wanted to see an Icelandic horse up close. I didn't need to ride a horse (and frankly just wanted to pet one), largely because my only other horse riding experience made me a little nervous.
HOWEVER, this experience was OUTSTANDING! Icelandic horses are smaller than typical horses and very friendly / in-tune with their rider, which made the experience much less daunting. I went from nervous (at the start) to genuinely looking forward to the opportunities to trot and tolt (by the middle/end). Additionally, the trail was super interesting visually with the lava rocks and the terrain / pathway was much more versatile than my other horse riding experience.
I also appreciated that we had two riders from the company with us at all times; one in the front and one who would go back and forth to check on everyone in the line. Again, as a nervous rider, that made me feel really secure because someone was always close by to help.
Much to our delight and surprise, this tour was one of the highlights of our trip (for both a nervous rider and an experienced rider). 10/10 would recommend.

We were in a small group... - We were in a small group of four total. The weather varied between snow and rain. The outer clothing provided kept us clean and dry. The two individual who were working with our tour group were fantastic with my mother, who was afraid of riding a horse and she had a wonderful experience.

A fun wild experience to... - A fun wild experience to do in Iceland. Easily accessible from Reykjavik. The horses were great and the workers helping us who’ve had no experience on a horse 🤣

Icelandic horse riding - We both enjoyed the experience of riding Icelandic horses. The pickup was prompt and it did not take long to get to the stables. Staff at the stables were very friendly and helpful.

Wonderful riding experience - My boyfriend and I had an amazing time at Red Lava Tours! The horses are extremely cute and well behaved, the guides were friendly and professional (special thanks to Hania!), and the organisation was top tier. We saw the red lava rocks and we even learnt the famous tölt gait. Highly recommended to beginners and experienced riders alike!

Experience of a life time with these Icelandic Horses! - Fantastic ride with these unique and beautiful (plus cute!!!) Icelandic Horses. Riding instructor well organised and very experienced! I had no fear riding in her group! It is a smooth ride too trotting on these horses! Most of the group were inexperienced with riding so I was amazed that the riding instructor managed to get us all to trot LOL! I had a wonderful horse Norta who I will never forget! Beautiful area and unique landscape riding around in. Because of my fantastic experience, I’m getting on another Icelandic horse again before I depart back home to NZ! PS- this tour has beautifully cared for and well trained Icelandic horses!

With this provider you are in the best hands to experience the experience in the volcanic landscape around Reykjavik. - Booked the appointment 1 month in advance from home. Afterwards, have the hotel pick up blocked 1 day beforehand. The transfer was good then.
Great team, informed us well in advance. Anyone who has had experience gets a horse which is more demanding.
In our case, even during the ride, the horse would be replaced for an experienced rider.
