Sailing into Serenity: A Day on Symi Island
With a deep love for the ocean and a thirst for adventure, I set out to explore the enchanting Symi Island. Join me as I recount a day filled with stunning views, charming discoveries, and a sunset that took my breath away.
Setting Sail to Symi
The sun was just beginning to cast its golden glow over Mandraki Harbor as I boarded the high-speed boat for a day of adventure. The anticipation of exploring Symi Island, one of the Dodecanese’s hidden gems, was palpable. As a former professional surfer, the ocean has always been my playground, and the promise of turquoise waters and pastel-colored buildings was too enticing to resist.
The boat ride was exhilarating, with the sea spray adding a refreshing touch to the warm air. The crew was friendly, and their enthusiasm was infectious. Our first stop was the stunning bay of St. George’s for a quick photo op. While it was a brief pause, the view was undeniably breathtaking, with the cliffs rising majestically from the azure sea.
Discovering Symi’s Charm
Upon arrival at Symi, I was immediately captivated by the island’s beauty. The neoclassical buildings painted in soft hues framed the harbor, creating a picturesque scene that felt like stepping into a postcard. As someone who thrives on exploring off the beaten path, I wandered through the narrow streets, discovering charming shops and hidden gems.
One of the highlights was visiting a local shop renowned for its natural sponges. The shopkeeper, with a warm smile, offered a discount and a small gift, making the experience even more memorable. As I continued my exploration, I stumbled upon a quaint bar near the clock tower. Sipping a cold drink while soaking in the view was pure bliss.
A Sunset to Remember
As the day drew to a close, I made my way back to the boat, savoring a delicious ice cream from a local patisserie along the way. The return journey was a bit chilly, and I regretted not bringing a cardigan, but the stunning sunset more than made up for it. The sky was painted in shades of orange and pink, a perfect end to a perfect day.
The sea was a bit rougher on the way back, causing a slight delay, but it only added to the adventure. As we docked back in Rhodes, I felt a sense of fulfillment, having ticked another incredible experience off my bucket list. The Symi Island Cruise was a journey of discovery, beauty, and unforgettable moments, and I can’t wait to share more island adventures with you all.
