Azace Zane is the most enthusiastic tour guide for Riga! - We came to Riga from NCL cruise ship in September, while looking for interesting spots by ourselves in the interwinding streets of the Old Town, we were extremely lucky to have met an English tour group lead by an enthusiastic tour guide, Azace Zane. Her knowledgeable, intimate and humorous explanation of the Latvia culture, social relationships and characters in both history and today attracted us very much so we decided to follow her through the later walking tour, although we didn’t sign into her tour and not even know of her name yet! In the following miles walking with her, she was very kind and never excluded us. She showed us many interesting places of Riga, like the beautiful White House Opera House, the magnificent Dome, Riga Cathedral, St Peter’s Church, the splendid Blackhead building, and the peculiar Three Brothers structures. At the parliament she also openly talked a little bit about current issues involving the social conflicts in Latvia. The most impressive is she couldn’t hide her high pride of the freedom-loving spirit of the Latvia people when she took the group to the magnificent Freedom Monument. She pointed out to us the blooming blue and yellow flowers in the city garden, because that symbolizes the solidarity between Latvia and Ukraine during the current war. She didn’t forget to tell us about those blue tags on electric cars which allow them to free park on city streets, while non-eV cars have to pay 5 Euros per hour for parking! That’s pretty progressive! Overall, walking with Azace Zane in Riga has been an unforgettable experience for us!

Learned a lot about 'Art Nouveau' architectural style and about the reconstruction of some parts of the city center after WWII.. - Nice way to get an impression of Riga. Learned a lot about the 'Art Nouveau' architectural style. Our guide had a lot of knowledge, but spoke English with a heavy accent. She also brought a photo book with her, showing how some buildings had been mauled and repaired in the warlag. Our guide was in a hurry though. Little to no time to take a picture.
