Hill of Crosses - A Grand Day Out! - Have wanted to see the Hill of Crosses for a while, so this trip was a great opportunity to visit and also see some of the country outside of Riga plus some of Lithuania. Erlens our tour guide was excellent, (6 stars) being extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. I'd highly recommend!

Impressive - Impressive due to its uniqueness and originality! You can feel there – on this very small piece of land – an incredible force by so many crosses .. you can feel the passage of years and the strength of a resistance!

Great tour, great guide, great value! - This was a fun and fascinating tour and a very good value! Our guide Viktorija was so knowledgeable and informative, not only about the places we saw, but also about Latvia's past and present. She made sure we had enough time for each stop and made an effort to talk to the solo travelers. I highly recommend it!

Very humbling and shows that one place can help people from anywhere - I saw pictures online before going but it didn’t prepare me for just how many crosses are on this hill. By hill I also mean more of a mound of earth. The crosses are placed there by people of different beliefs, for different reasons and with any type of cross. There are crosses carved in wood with ornate designs, metal crosses with intricate designs, crosses made from rocks, legos, sticks, bike gears, glass and anything else you could imagine. You don’t have to be religious to appreciate the faith and hope people have when they come here. You won’t see anything like this anywhere else, so if you’re in the area, go for a humbling site. The true beginning of this hill is unknown but there are legends of how it started.

True local experience - This is a wonderful day trip for those with limited time in Latvia. The guide was incredibly knowledge of local history and culture and shared all her knowledge with the group. We saw the hill of crosses in Lithuania, the Latvian/Lithuanian border where we stopped for photos, a Russian Orthodox Church and old castle in Jelgava and had lunch is the most quaint little restaurant on the water front. You could just sit back and relax for the day while learning and seeing new things and places. Delighted I went!
