Meet at your hotel or Sofia airport at 7:00 am. The transfer from Sofia to Maliovitsa Mountain School takes approximately 2 hours. Mountain School Maliovitsa is situated at 1700 m and serves as the starting point for many hiking trails in Rila, including ours. Initially, we will reach Hut Maliovitsa in about 1 hour. Hut Maliovitsa is at 1960 m. This section is the easiest, involving a walk along a dirt road with stones. Feel free to bring snacks and drinks. The real hiking begins after the hut. During this part, you’ll witness peaks such as the Camel, the Evil Tooth, Iglata, Kupenite, and Popova Kapa, all exceeding 2600 m above sea level. We will hike upwards for over 2 hours, requiring some bouldering skills to reach the Prekorechki Lakes. Scary Lake is the largest and highest among these lakes, situated at 2465 m. This will be our highest point for the day. From Scary Lake, we will descend to Yonchevo Lake (less than 2 hours), a popular spot for tourists to relax. Yonchevo Lake is at 2100 m.

Yonchevo Lake to Maliovitsa Mountain School takes 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Govedartsi-Panichiste Resort-Seven Rila Lakes-Damga Peak-Rila Monastery

7:30 am - Breakfast at the guest house. 8:30 am - Check out and transfer to Panichiste Resort, which takes 1 hour and 20 minutes. Panichiste Resort is at 1500 m. From the resort, we will take a chair lift to the “Rila Lakes” chalet, a 25-minute ride. “Rila Lakes” is at 2135 m. From the chalet, the hike begins. We will be in one of the most energetic places in Bulgaria, within the Seven Rila Lakes area. As we ascend, we will visit all the lakes. After a 40-minute hike, passing the Low and Fish Lakes, we will reach the old hut “Seven Lakes” at 2196 m. Over the next hour and a half, we will see the other lakes: Trilistnika, the Twin, the Kidney, the Eye, and the Tear. Six of these can be viewed from Lake Peak. Lake Peak is at 2560 m. In less than an hour, we will reach the ridge and Damga Peak. Damga is at 2669 m. The descent to Rila Monastery takes 4 to 5 hours.

Rila Monastery is at 1147 m. Enjoy a guided tour of the courtyard and temple, followed by dinner in the monastery area.

8:00 am - Breakfast at the hotel. 9:00 am - Check out. Optionally, you can explore the Bohemia Eco-Trail with waterfalls, which takes approximately 45 minutes. Transfer to Stob’s Pyramids, a 30-minute drive. This natural phenomenon features a peaceful eco-trail lasting 1 hour. Enjoy lunch and then transfer to Sofia.

Furthermore, it’s also known as the mountain of enlightenment - because of the Rila monastery, the largest monastery in Bulgaria, and the tranquil White brotherhood - a group of individuals who perform barefoot dances to embrace the soul of the mountain and the energy of Jesus.
