Punta Jesus Maria - Punta Jesús María is a narrow sand strip extending into Lake Nicaragua, reaching up to 1 kilometer during the dry season. Walk along this sand strip with water splashing from both sides. In the rainy season, the lake’s water level rises, and the sand strip may disappear.
This spot is renowned for its breathtaking views. You can also see the mainland across the lake, including the Mombacho Volcano near Granada. -
Laguna Charco Verde - The Charco Verde natural reserve is a protected area situated between Ometepe’s two volcanoes, at the island’s lower part. It includes a lagoon, forest, and beach.
The lagoon, known as Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon), is separated from the lake by a thin land strip. It provides a haven for numerous birds, monkeys, and other wildlife. -
Altagracia - Pre-Columbian statues, petroglyphs, and other cave art are found on Ometepe. Experts believe it was an aboriginal sanctuary, as various rock formations and ceramic pieces were discovered, resembling ceremonial centers. These statues, crafted by the Chorotegas, an indigenous community, date back to the early centuries (800 to 1,350 AD). They are made of black basalt, a very hard material.
-
Playa Santo Domingo - The next stop is Playa Santo Domingo, where visitors can unwind, swim, and enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant by the lake. Playa Santo Domingo is characterized by its white sand beaches, offering panoramic views of Lake Nicaragua and Ometepe Island.
