- Tianshan Tianchi Lake - At 9:00 am, the guide will meet the group in the lobby of a centrally located Urumqi hotel, followed by a one-hour drive to Tianchi. Known as Heavenly Lake in English, this high-altitude lake is nestled in the central Tianshan Mountains and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2013. Visitors can enjoy a boat ride on this beautiful lake, situated at an elevation of 1980 meters. A scenic spot, Lesser Tianchi, is hidden within the forest, featuring a waterfall cascading from the mountain, offering breathtaking views. Additionally, numerous Kazakh yurts are found along the lake’s banks, serving as homes for the nomadic Kazakhs.
- Red Mountain - Lunch will be provided at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, the group will return to Urumqi to explore Red Hill, or Hongshan in Chinese, located in the city center at an altitude of 910 meters. Here, visitors can admire a pagoda constructed 200 years ago. Today, Red Hill is a symbol of the city of Urumqi.
After the tour concludes, guests will be transported back to their hotel.

Overlooking the desert - There‘s no other way than by crossing through some part of the dessert to come to TianShan - and a short while later you‘ll feel like you‘re in Switzerland. The air is clear, the lake beautiful, a quite large waterfall rushes down the mountain, glaciers on the background shine bright white in the sun. You’ll be over 3.000m high, if you choose to walk up the final stretch of the mountain. And from up there you’ll overlook the Heavenly Lake and watch fast stretches of desert in the background. Yes, it‘s China-typically „guided“ (there‘re walkways and stairs showing you the paths you‘re supposed to go), and yes, it is a popular destination for Chinese tourists, but it indeed is a very beautiful area.
