- Comune di Rocchetta al Volturno - In secluded and often overlooked locations, within caves or beside rocks, huts were quietly constructed, serving as monasteries for travelers seeking true love, towers suspended in the vast emptiness of conflict with the outside world, and shelters for displaced individuals who, during World War II, struggled to find even a breath of sustenance. In the Alto Volturno region, the rock has provided many with a comforting refuge and a vital defense during times of intense fear and disillusionment, leading to exhaustion and ultimately redemption. It offered hope, solace, and illuminated a new path forward.
This journey will explore how the rock has, over the centuries, protected and embraced the animals, plants, and people who have inhabited and continue to inhabit the upper Volturno valley.
