Welcome to the world’s first museum! The Capitoline Museum boasts a captivating collection of art and artifacts, each narrating unique stories about Rome’s intriguing history. In 1734, Pope Clement XII made a generous decision to make a substantial collection of artwork and ancient sculptures permanently available to the people of Rome. This act led to the creation of the world’s first museum, situated atop one of Rome’s Seven Hills. Visitors can admire the renowned she-wolf sculpture depicting Rome’s founders, Romulus and Remus.
