The temple is notable for its circular design. Since Vesta’s worship began in private homes, the architecture reflects this history. The existing temple features Greek architecture with Corinthian columns, marble, and a central cella. The remaining structure suggests there were twenty Corinthian columns on a podium fifteen meters in diameter. The roof likely had a vent at the top to release smoke.

Construction began in 54 BC and was completed in 29 BC by Augustus. The Forum of Caesar underwent renovations during Trajan’s time and after the fire of 283 AD.

Julius Caesar spent vast sums of money from the Gallic campaign (60 million sesterces according to Cicero, 100 million according to Suetonius) to purchase land, expropriate private property, and demolish buildings in the area. He also relocated the Curia.

Julius Caesar instructed Cicero to buy land for the forum’s construction. Roman law was so powerful that even emperors could not override contracts.
