Great tour of the Colosseum - James was a brilliant tour guide and gave us a fantastic tour of the Colosseum, with plenty of interesting facts and context which helped to visualise what it used to look like. He also gave us an overview of the Forum beforehand which was very insightful. Very much recommend the Touring Pandas for any tours around Rome.

Decent Tour but Felt Rushed and Not Exactly as Described. - Colosseum Tour First, I want to say that our guide Jaume was a very pleasant person. He showed us some great spots to get photos and volunteered to take some. He also provide us with a lot of historical facts about Rome. My husband and I both felt like 3 hours was not enough time for the tour as it felt very rushed. The tour started on time but there was some sort of mishap with the tour company securing our underground tix in advance which led to an approximate 20 min delay in us going underground. Jaume was filled with knowledge on the history of Rome and had a lot of knowledge about the colosseum in general but was unable to answer many of the questions about what spaces in the underground were used for. He would respond with things like ‘We don’t know’, or ‘there’s not enough information available to know’. At times we were near guides from other tour companies who were providing a lot more info about the underground itself and saying things like ‘these rooms were where the gladiators lived or got ready for battle’ or ‘it’s likely that this is where they did XYZ based on XXX’. I’m not sure if Juame is a new guide to this tour, or if the guides from the other companies were making this stuff up, regardless more information about the underground would have been very appreciated. I would encourage that this tour company invest in headsets. Even though there were only six people on this tour, it was hard to hear since much of the talking was when we were walking. Because of crowds everyone had to walk single file most of the time so only the two people closest to the guide could truly hear what he was saying. Despite the tour description saying we’d have a guide at the Forum, we did not. Since our 3 hours had expired, Jaume dropped us off at Palatine Hill to explore on our own. The Forum is a huge place and we felt a bit overwhelmed. Giving out maps may have helped a lot as we felt lost. Despite the tour description saying we’d ‘Walk through the ruins of the Temple of Julius Caesar, the Arch of Titus, the Roman Senate House, and much more where your guide will bring it all back to life with tales of Mark Antony, Cleopatra, Caesar, and more’. We didn’t have a guide during this part so we didn’t hear these stories. Jaume was very nice and had good knowledge of Palatine Hill and general knowledge of Rome and the colosseum, but this tour was not nearly long enough to see and do everything that was supposed to be included, plus the 20 minute delay in going underground didn’t help. Jaume did stay about 15 minutes past the tour end time to make up for that, but it still wasn’t enough time. Looking at the tour website, it appears that this particular tour is now being allotted a 3.5 hour window, which should help some. We gave a rating of 4 of 5 because we really enjoyed our guide Jaume and much of what went wrong was out of his control. If it hadn’t been for him we probably would have rated it only a 3. Overall we did enjoy the tour and appreciated being able to go underground at the colosseum. We just felt rushed and that the full tour didn’t live up to its description. We originally booked through ‘Your Tour Guy’ who apparently partners with Touring Panda, so maybe this is maybe why there was a discrepancy with the description??
