Discover the secrets of the Colosseum - Going to visit the Colosseum, at first glance seems only a historical monument, but there are many different possibilities and modes, the guided tour of the arena and something unique, you can breathe the air and imagine how it was originally, where gladiators fought, their quarters prisons and much more. I highly recommend, the Colosseum is not just a monument.

Touring the Grounds - Informative tour but also very long. Would have liked more time to wander on our own to take photos as different sites.

History’s Greatest Stage, Served with a Side of Static - I must confess, there are few places on earth that conjure up such magnificent images of bloody spectacles and political power as the Colosseum. As a fan of history, and, of course, things that involve a good bit of spectacle, I was eager to experience this famed monument of Ancient Rome. Fortunately, I had the sense to book a guided tour, which, let me tell you, is the best way to go if you’re short on time — and patience. Let’s talk about the positives first. The whole experience was impressively organised, I’ll give them that. We were whisked through the lines faster than a Ferrari on the Autostrada. No endless hours spent waiting in the blistering heat, no feeling like you’re part of a slow-moving herd. You just turn up, you’re met with a guide who probably knows more about Roman history than I’ll ever know, and boom — straight in. You’ve got quick access to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, saving an insane amount of time. If you’ve ever seen the queues, you’ll understand the sheer joy of not having to face them. But here’s where things started to get a little disappointing. Once inside, the Colosseum portion of the tour felt, well, a bit short. Given the vastness and the brutal history of the place, I was expecting to spend a bit more time wandering through the grand amphitheatre, soaking up the atmosphere. Alas, the time we spent inside was as fleeting as the gladiators who fought there. We barely had time to take in the scale before we were ushered off to the next section, which, frankly, felt like we were on some sort of time-trial rather than a historical experience. Perhaps a bit more time to take in the aura would have been beneficial. Now, onto the guide. She knew her stuff, no doubt about it, but here’s the thing — if you’re going to guide a tour through one of the most iconic structures in the world, you really need to step up your game. There were no pictures, no videos, nothing extra to really help illustrate the history. I mean, come on, in this age of smartphones and tablets, surely you can show us a few images of what the Colosseum looked like in its heyday? Instead, we were left with nothing but the bare bones of her explanations. For a monument this monumental, a bit of extra material would have really helped paint a picture. And then there was the technology. The wireless receivers were archaic at best. They kept cutting out, and we frequently found ourselves hearing static or, even better, receiving signals from other guides on different tours. I swear I learned more about the lunch plans of another group than I did about the history of the Roman Empire. Not ideal, to say the least. In summary, the Colosseum tour does exactly what it says on the tin: it gets you in quickly and efficiently, meaning you’ll have plenty of time for gelato afterward. But if you’re after an immersive, detailed, and perhaps slightly less rushed experience, you might want to look elsewhere. The organisation was spot on, but when it comes to the content and the tech, well, a bit more effort would have made this experience truly extraordinary.

Frustrating - Unfortunately we did not get what we paid for. We started in the Forum and spent 2 hours of our 3 hour tour there. By the time we listened to a long lecture in a hallway we barely had any time in the arena of the coliseum. Everyone in the group was pretty frustrated. We could have heard the lecture through our devices while we looked at the Coliseum. But instead we were lined up in a hallway and got lectured while we watched tour groups go past us. We were supposed to spend 1 hour 40 minutes in the Coliseum and 1 hour 10 minutes in the forum. We got maybe 10 minutes in the Arena floor.

Need a guide who speaks English clearly - Entrance to colosseum was quick and easy, and unfortunately the best part of the tour. Guide's English was so poor he was barely intelligible. He seemed to be knowledgeable enough if we could only understand him. Other than the entrance fees and skip-the-line privilege, the price we paid was a complete waste. Very surprised that Viator would approve this tour company.
