In the afternoon, enjoy a 2-hour visit with a professional guide, where you can soak in the atmosphere of medieval streets and artisan workshops, and view masterpieces by Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Botticelli, including Michelangelo’s David at the “Accademia”. Visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, with its stunning dome designed by Brunelleschi, and admire the Baptistery as well as Giotto’s Bell Tower. - Galleria dell’Accademia - The visit includes the Accademia Gallery, home to Michelangelo’s renowned sculpture, David. In addition to David, there are other sculptures and a vast collection of paintings by Florentine artists.
- Duomo - Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore - The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (viewed from outside), with its magnificent dome designed by Brunelleschi, is Florence’s cathedral. Construction began in 1296 in the Gothic style, designed by Arnolfo di Cambio, and was structurally completed in 1436 with the dome by Filippo Brunelleschi. The exterior of the basilica is adorned with polychrome marble panels in various shades of green and pink, bordered by white, and features an elaborate 19th-century Gothic Revival façade by Emilio De Fabris.
- Piazza della Signoria - Piazza della Signoria has been the heart of Florence’s political life since the 14th century. The square has witnessed significant historical events and triumphs, such as the return of the Medici in 1530. The famous sculptures in Piazza della Signoria reference Florence’s political events. Michelangelo’s David (the original is in the Accademia Gallery) was placed in front of Palazzo Vecchio to symbolize the power of the Florentine Republic against the Medici’s tyranny. Hercules and Cacus (1534) by Bandinelli symbolizes the family’s physical power.
- Ponte Vecchio - Built near a Roman-era crossing, the Ponte Vecchio was the only bridge crossing the Arno in Florence until 1218. Above Ponte Vecchio, you can see part of the beautiful Vasari Corridor. This corridor, constructed in 1565 by Giorgio Vasari, passes just above the goldsmith shops on either side of the bridge. Commissioned by the Medici, it allowed them to move from Palazzo Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti safely without crossing Florence’s streets. At the time of the Corridor’s construction, butchers’ shops were on the Ponte Vecchio, likely disturbing the Medici’s passage, leading to their relocation in 1593 and replacement with more “decorous” goldsmith shops.
- Piazzale Michelangelo - Piazzale Michelangelo is the most picturesque spot in Florence. From here, you can admire the entire city with its magnificent monuments. This square is dedicated to the great Renaissance artist Michelangelo, and a replica of David is located in the center of the square, alongside the four allegories of the Medici Chapels of San Lorenzo.
