- Piazza di Spagna - The Spanish Steps, or Piazza di Spagna, is one of the most iconic sights globally and a stunning urban monument in Rome. This 18th-century masterpiece, with its unique shape, lies at the base of Pincio Hill, crowned by the French Church Trinità dei Monti (1502). The square and church are linked by the grand Spanish Steps, constructed between 1723-1726, designed by Francesco de Sanctis. The Piazza di Spagna, located at the steps’ base, is named after the Spanish Embassy, which also lent its name to the steps. These steps were built in the 18th century to connect the Embassy and the Trinità dei Monti church (under French patronage) with the Holy See, the Catholic Church’s seat in Rome, situated in the square below. At the stairs’ base, the renowned Barcaccia Fountain, crafted by Pietro Bernini and his son, Gian Lorenzo, can be found. With its distinctive sinking ship design, the fountain commemorates the historic 1598 flood of the River Tiber. However, the square’s main highlight is the breathtaking staircase of Trinità dei Monti.
- Trevi Fountain - Designed by Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini in 1762, legend has it that tossing coins into its waters ensures a return to Rome. At its center, in the niche, stands the statue of Oceanus, atop a chariot drawn by sea horses and accompanied by tritons. To Oceanus’s left is the statue of Abundance, and to the right, the statue representing Health. Its water, sourced from the ancient Acqua Vergine aqueduct, was once considered Rome’s softest and best-tasting, though it is now non-potable.
- Pantheon - The Pantheon is the best-preserved ancient Roman building, completed around 125 CE during Hadrian’s reign. Its magnificent dome is a testament to Roman architectural brilliance, and as the building remains virtually intact, it offers modern visitors a rare chance to step back 2,000 years and experience the grandeur of ancient Rome.
