Starting from Rotorua, your journey to the Hobbiton Movie Set begins with a scenic drive to Matamata. Along the way, your local driver guide will provide insightful commentary and share stories about the region’s history. Upon arrival, embark on a guided tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set, discovering how this beautiful farmland was transformed into a vibrant piece of Middle Earth. Your guide will take you to see Hobbit holes, the Green Dragon Inn, the Party Tree, the Mill, and other iconic structures from the films. You’ll also have the chance to step inside an authentic Hobbit Hole on Bagshot Row. Afterward, enjoy a delicious lunch at The Party Marquee before returning to Rotorua.
- All tours are operated by a luxury 5 star coach with on board toilet
- The Hobbiton Movie Set is beginning The Shire’s Maintenance and Restoration project. The first stage of work is set to get underway from 01 June to September 2025 and will see major maintenance undertaken on one of the Hobbit Holes, not directly visited on the Hobbiton Movie Set Tour route as well as on the Party Field. During this period, construction and maintenance equipment and noise will be present. Tours will continue as normal but will take an alternate route around the construction zone, while being able to get a glimpse of the work that goes into keeping Hobbiton Movie Set as magical as it looked in the films.
