A Cinematic Journey Through Jiufen and Shifen: Northern Taiwan’s Hidden Gems
In search of a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, I embarked on a journey to Northern Taiwan. The allure of Jiufen’s cinematic charm and Shifen’s sky lantern tradition promised an unforgettable experience.
Enchanting Jiufen: A Step into a Cinematic Dream
As I stepped into Jiufen, I felt as though I had wandered into a scene from a Hayao Miyazaki film. The narrow alleyways, adorned with vibrant red lanterns, whispered tales of the past. The aroma of street food wafted through the air, and I couldn’t resist indulging in the local delicacies. The taro balls and bubble tea were a delightful surprise, each bite and sip offering a unique taste of Taiwan’s rich culinary heritage.
The view from Jiufen was nothing short of spectacular. The mountains rolled into the distance, meeting the ocean in a breathtaking embrace. It was a moment of pure serenity, a perfect blend of nature and history. As I wandered through the streets, I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the stories and memories that lingered in the air.
Shifen: Wishes in the Sky
Shifen was a place where nostalgia and hope intertwined. The old railway tracks, a remnant of a bygone era, added a charming touch to the town’s atmosphere. Here, I had the opportunity to partake in a tradition that was both meaningful and magical. Writing my wishes on a sky lantern and watching it ascend into the sky was a moment of reflection and aspiration.
The journey to the Shifen Waterfall was a bit of a trek, but the sight that awaited was worth every step. The cascading waters, framed by lush greenery, created a scene of natural beauty that was both invigorating and calming. It was a reminder of the power and grace of nature, a perfect counterpoint to the human stories told in the town below.
A Note on Houtong Cat Village
While Jiufen and Shifen left me enchanted, Houtong Cat Village was a different experience. The village, known for its feline residents, seemed to lack the vibrancy I had anticipated. The buildings appeared worn, and the cats, perhaps weary from the heat, were less active than expected. For a cat lover, it might still hold charm, but for me, it paled in comparison to the other stops on the tour.
Our guide, Nicolas, was a gem throughout the journey. His kindness and knowledge added depth to the experience, and his assistance with restaurant reservations was a thoughtful touch that made the trip seamless. This tour was a beautifully organized exploration of Northern Taiwan, and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Explore Northern Taiwan
