Enchanting Jiufen: A Step into a Cinematic Dream

As I stepped into Jiufen, I felt as though I had wandered into a scene from a Hayao Miyazaki film. The narrow alleyways, adorned with vibrant red lanterns, whispered tales of the past. The aroma of street food wafted through the air, and I couldn’t resist indulging in the local delicacies. The taro balls and bubble tea were a delightful surprise, each bite and sip offering a unique taste of Taiwan’s rich culinary heritage.

The view from Jiufen was nothing short of spectacular. The mountains rolled into the distance, meeting the ocean in a breathtaking embrace. It was a moment of pure serenity, a perfect blend of nature and history. As I wandered through the streets, I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the stories and memories that lingered in the air.

Shifen: Wishes in the Sky

Shifen was a place where nostalgia and hope intertwined. The old railway tracks, a remnant of a bygone era, added a charming touch to the town’s atmosphere. Here, I had the opportunity to partake in a tradition that was both meaningful and magical. Writing my wishes on a sky lantern and watching it ascend into the sky was a moment of reflection and aspiration.

The journey to the Shifen Waterfall was a bit of a trek, but the sight that awaited was worth every step. The cascading waters, framed by lush greenery, created a scene of natural beauty that was both invigorating and calming. It was a reminder of the power and grace of nature, a perfect counterpoint to the human stories told in the town below.

A Note on Houtong Cat Village

While Jiufen and Shifen left me enchanted, Houtong Cat Village was a different experience. The village, known for its feline residents, seemed to lack the vibrancy I had anticipated. The buildings appeared worn, and the cats, perhaps weary from the heat, were less active than expected. For a cat lover, it might still hold charm, but for me, it paled in comparison to the other stops on the tour.

His kindness and knowledge added depth to the experience, and his assistance with restaurant reservations was a thoughtful touch that made the trip seamless.
