- Rumsiskes Open-Air Museum - The Open-Air Museum of Lithuania ranks among the largest ethnographic open-air museums in Europe, spanning 195 hectares. Established in 1966 on the scenic shores of Kaunas Lagoon in Rumšiškės, the museum’s exhibitions showcase the ethnographic regions of Lithuania: Dzūkija (Dainava), Aukštaitija (Highlands), Suvalkija (Sudovia), Žemaitija (Samogitia), and Lithuania Minor, as they appeared from the late 18th century to the first half of the 20th century.
The houses representing each region are set in their natural surroundings, featuring period-appropriate interiors and exteriors. Inside the buildings, visitors can explore exhibitions of household items, crafts, trade, agricultural machinery, and ethnobotany.
- Kaunas Castle - Situated at the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers, this 14th-century castle was constructed to defend against crusader invasions. It is not only one of Lithuania’s earliest stone castles but also the only one with two rows of defensive walls. A settlement that evolved into the present-day city developed around these Gothic fortifications. Kaunas Castle was first documented in written records in 1361.
- Raudondvaris Dvaras - Raudondvaris Manor is a Renaissance architectural monument from the early 17th century in Lithuania. The manor is located on the right bank of the upper terrace of the Nevėžis River, near the confluence of the Nemunas and Nevėžis. The estate, along with 3.8 hectares of parkland, two Oficina buildings, an orangery, stables, and an ice-house, forms a cohesive ensemble.
- Seredžius - This impressive hill fort on the Nemunas River bank is also known as Mount Palemonas. Legend has it that the Roman duke Palemonas was buried here. In the 13th-14th centuries, a fortress stood atop the steep mound, and today, a fantastic viewing platform offers stunning vistas of the Nemunas Valley and the confluence of the Nemunas and Dubysa.
- Veliuona - Among the oldest Catholic churches in Samogitia, it was destroyed during the Samogitian uprising but later rebuilt by Grand Duke Vytautas of Lithuania. In the 17th century, the church was renovated by Albertas Stanislovas Radvila, who, like his family, admired Renaissance architectural forms. Today, the church’s tall square tower provides a panoramic view of the River Nemunas and the town of Veliuona, a scene worthy of a painter’s brush. The tower houses a unique collection of canonicals and church books.
- Panemunes Castle - This is one of Lithuania’s most authentic castles. Its architecture has remained largely unchanged over time, and the design by the renowned architect Peter Nonhart is considered exemplary. The castle’s reserved yet majestic forms reflect the ambitions and grandeur of the noble Eperjesz family from Hungary, whose influence waned over the years. The castle was later renovated by its new owner, Antanas Gelgaudas, the standard-bearer of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Today, the castle hosts art exhibitions and theatrical performances.
