Amazing experience - Our guide, Zem, was incredibly friendly and attentive. The tour was spectacular, taking us through stunning spots among the rice fields and giving us insight into the tradition and culture of the different ethnic groups. She spoke perfect English and explained everything wonderfully — from the bamboo forests to the rice terraces. Truly an unforgettable experience.

Espectacular - A unique and impressive experience. They take you through rice fields and along dirt roads (which turn to mud when it rains—bring rain boots), and explain the local way of life. Mao Co was our guide, a local woman who explains everything in detail, including how the native people of Sa Pa live and make a living. The homestay is very rustic, with no TV and meant just for sleeping—it’s a nice place, but don’t expect a 5-star hotel. Still, you’ll get a good night’s sleep and rest well. Dinner and breakfast are quite delicious, and you eat together with the group you did the tour with. I highly recommend it if you’re a nature lover and want to learn about the culture. If possible, ask for Mao Co—she was our tour guide throughout, extremely professional, and her English is very good.

Great experience! - Well-organized tour, with breathtaking views among rice paddies and local villages. The guide was nice and prepared, lunch in the local house delicious. A challenging trek but absolutely recommended for those who want to discover the real Sa Pa.

Local life up close - It was a great experience to walk through 3 ethnic villages and see how local communities make their living. Our guide also comes from one of those villages minorities so you can learn in detail about hardship of everyday life. She has told us a lot about rice cultivation. It’s all about walking (about 10 km) so you can admire beautiful scenery of rice fields, mountains and generally the greenery. We were lucky to have a good weather otherwise it gets muddy. And one more remark, you don’t have to buy anything from local women or children but if you do you may support them. Very interesting tour worth taking.

Great experience and lots of fun! - Great fun! The group was varied and the views were amazing. Our guide, Su, encountered some obstacles with the trek but she managed them with ease and humor. Really recommend this trek, but come prepared with clothing and footwear! You'll actually be walking through the rice fields and up and down hill through the villas

Gorgeous landscapes, unexpected child labor - I have mixed feelings about this tour. On the one hand it was fantastic to see the villages and gorgeous landscapes of the area, to learn about how rice is grown on these mountains and to learn about the culture of the various mountain and hill peoples. On the other hand, we were followed most of the way by a Hmong family and I realized that this was happening with every tour group in the area--a family will walk with your tour group for hours in hopes that eventually you will buy something from them. Now this is not our tour guide's fault because this is just what happens, but when we asked her to tell them to leave us alone, she refused. I understand that families need to make money, but I really didn't like seeing these young children being forced by adults to work. These kids should be in school or playing. Instead many of them work because the adults think they can use them to make money, and I don't like how this tour enabled this practice. You will encounter tons of children on this tour trying to sell you stuff. I know they are cute, but DO NOT buy from children or give money to children. Do not enable the continued exploitation of disadvantaged children. These Hmong children were being forced by their adult relatives to walk with our group, and besides that being manipulative toward tourists, it's just wrong. Still, the landscapes were beautiful and the food at the end of the tour was delicious!
