Antigua: 2-Day Acatenango Volcano Hike with Local Guide & Meals

Pachamama Tours - Please arrive at our office by 7:30 AM on the day of your hike.

Pachamama Tours, situated at our hostel, supplies all essential gear (jackets, gloves, hats) and provides a comprehensive briefing. Optional Fuego Volcano hikes, snacks, additional gear, and porters are available for purchase.

Acatenango, La Soledad - The journey from our main office to “La Soledad,” the starting point of the hike, takes approximately 45–60 minutes in a shared minibus.

The trek to basecamp lasts 6 to 8 hours, with scenic breaks along the way, including a stop for lunch (remember to pack essentials like toilet paper!). Upon arrival, enjoy the sight of Fuego Volcano’s eruptions under the night sky. Later, gather around the campfire for hot chocolate and Guatemalan rum, followed by a delicious dinner.

Accommodation is provided in our newly constructed wooden cabins, featuring insulation, sleeping bags, and glass doors to view the eruptions in warmth and comfort. Each cabin accommodates up to 5 people.

Fuego Volcano - Experience the excitement of standing just 200 meters from Fuego Volcano’s eruptions on this thrilling 3.5-hour round trip! At an altitude of 3,768 meters (12,362 feet), this hike offers a safe yet breathtaking vantage point to witness one of Guatemala’s most active volcanoes. Departing at 4 PM, the hike requires intermediate fitness and takes you to the volcano, where you’ll spend 30 minutes observing the eruptions up close.

Participants should come prepared with water, a jacket, and a headlamp, as this is a challenging hike. For safety reasons, travelers are not permitted to approach Fuego alone—doing so will immediately end the trip to ensure everyone’s safety.

Acatenango Sunrise / Summit

Turistico Volcan Acatenango - Rise at 4 AM for a brief summit hike and a stunning sunrise over the volcanic landscape. Spend 45 minutes taking in the views before descending to basecamp for a hot breakfast. Afterward, begin your descent to La Soledad, returning to Antigua by 12 PM.
