Great Hike, Highly Recommended - The journey to Grand Etang Lake was great as Troy provided lots of interesting information about the history, economy and culture of Greneda. A museum is currently being built next to the lake and it was good to have a look around and learn about the local landscape. Densil then guided me through the forest up to Mount Qua Qua. His knowledge of the flora and fauna was outstanding. The pace was quite comfortable thought there are some tricky parts, so strong footwear and a good level of fitness is important. There were some great views although when we got to Qua Qua it was quite misty. On the way back there was a bit of rain so it got a bit slippy but it’s fine if you take your time. After the walk Densil showed me Grand Etang Lake explaining how it’s used. We then saw some of the Mona monkeys, 2 of which are looked after by the residents. One the way back Troy against gave more information about the island and we stopped and had a look around Fort Frederick which was a fascinating landmark. Would highly recommend this trip. It’s a great day away from the crowds at the beaches and you get to see the beautiful and diverse greenery of the island and get fully immersed in Greneda’s rich history and culture.

A great, if muddy, hike through extraordinary scenery - This is an exciting hike with remarkable view. Densil was a fantastic guide. Unless you have a machete and know how to use it you definitely want to have a guide as it’s a very overgrown and lush trail. It’s very muddy so don’t wear white shoes. Hiking boots are probably worth it if you have them. They provide water and walking canes (which are essential). It’s extremely exciting to walk through rain forest and the views of the entire island are extraordinary. Be warned a) that it’s really muddy and b) that you walk along a ridge. It’s not at all dangerous but it’s not great for those with vertigo. If you’re unfit you might not enjoy this and want to start with a waterfall trail instead. But definitely do this if you like the hike in the Caribbean. It’s amazing and very very well led and organized.
