• Real Pirates Salem - Guests can explore an engaging exhibit that tells the tale of the legendary pirate “Black Sam” Bellamy and his cherished Maria Hallett. Attendees have the opportunity to view and handle authentic pirate treasure from the wreck of Bellamy’s ship, the Whydah Gally. Originally a slave ship, the Whydah was transformed into a pirate vessel and met its fate off the Cape Cod coast in 1717 during a fierce storm. Artifacts and genuine treasure have been retrieved from the ocean floor, amidst sharks, after the ship’s bell was discovered in 1984 by renowned underwater explorer Barry Clifford. The exhibit is frequently updated with new artifacts unearthed by onsite archaeologists, which visitors can see firsthand. A video, photo experience, and retail gift shop complete the visit. Groups are welcome.
