The two rocks in the sea, known as “I due fratelli,” symbolize the village, representing two brothers reunited after death by sea divinities, according to legend. Vietri is distinctive for its white plaster rococo buildings, narrow sheltered lanes, laundry hanging outside, balconies, fountains, and ceramic shop signs.
- Torre Crestarella - Spiaggia, Matrimoni, Eventi, Ristorante e Cocktailbar - “Torre Crestarella,” a picturesque tower from the 16th century, built by the Spanish viceroy of Naples, Don Pedro de Toledo, overlooks the beach that shares its name. Crestarella beach, with its 120 meters of sand mixed with small pebbles, is our first destination.
- Cetara - Approaching Cetara, one might feel as if gazing at a small oasis: the reflection of the quaint houses sparkles on the water and the surrounding rocks of the shore. Cetara was once an ancient Saracen fortress, and its name derives from the Latin Cetariae, meaning “tuna-fishing net.”
- Spiaggia dei Limoni - Further along, “Spiaggia dei Limoni” is discovered, a small 20-meter-long bay accessible only by sea, a preserved beauty spot. It is nestled within a lush lemon tree grove that dominates from above and a rocky wall that shelters it from the western breeze.
- Torre La Cerniola - Next, between the sky and the sea, stands the tower of Erchie. Here, one might feel reluctant to disturb the silence of such enchanting natural beauty. Peace and nature blend seamlessly. The Tower of Erchie, with its four machicolations at the top, is constructed from local calcareous stone and remains in excellent condition compared to other coastal towers. Its original shape has been preserved over the centuries, with its captivating position on the rocks that descend into the tranquil waters.
- Maiori - Passing Maiori, with its ancient maritime style, characterized by art and cuisine, “an imaginary city, a history not completely lost…” (Salvatore Quasimodo). Near Capo d’Orso, enjoy swimming in the azure waters.
- Minori - Next, Minori, the city of flavor, where limoncello, pasta, and traditional pastries are crafted. The typically tapered lemons boast excellent organic and medicinal properties and are an essential ingredient of Amalfi Coast cuisine.
- Conca dei Marini - When the sky seems to merge with the sea, it’s time to approach Conca dei Marini, where in the 1700s, a shell-shaped cake was first baked at Santa Rosa monastery. It was made of thousands of thin puff pastries rolled into each other, filled with custard and black cherries: the renowned “sfogliatella di Santa Rosa.”
- Capo Conca - Beyond Capo di Conca, a beautiful bay with clear, shallow waters lies just beneath the cliffs, often visited by bathers, scuba divers, and canoeists. The temptation to swim in the waters of “Fiordo di Furore,” accessible by sea or by steps along the rocks leading to the beach, is irresistible. It’s a wonderful experience, especially around midday when the sun’s rays reach the cliffs. Deep waters offshore, pebbles, and crystal-clear waters ashore.
- Praiano - Later, Praiano is discovered, reaching the islet of Galli. Once known as “the mermaid’s island,” it is said that Ulysses passed here, avoiding the three captivating mermaids Partenope, Leucosia, and Legea. Here, the coast becomes a true paradise, and it is said that ancient locals were unconcerned about heaven or hell in death, having already experienced heaven during their lifetime on the Amalfi Coast.
- Positano - Further along, a series of white houses, arches, and domes famous worldwide: this is Positano. Positano is filled with rocks resembling goddesses, colorful boutiques, and art galleries; here, one can truly feel the influence and tradition of religion and local cuisine. Enjoy the best spots for swimming or exploring the city.
- Amalfi - Continuing, Atrani and Amalfi are discovered; experience Amalfi by boat or land excursions, walking along its narrow streets with steps leading to the city’s top. A charming small town with ancient white walls and an irresistible marine style, the deep grayness of its steps, a delightful local lemon cream dessert, red hot peppers sold along the lanes, the green majolicas, and the ancient history of the famous Amalfi paper.
