Carved into the chalk hills, they stand out dramatically against the lush green landscape.
They are best viewed and most photogenic from a distance.
- Lacock - Lacock National Trust village is our lunch destination.
This is a preserved National Trust village that seems frozen in time. No major construction has occurred here for the past 200 years.
Featured in numerous films and period dramas including Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Larkrise to Candleford, and Downton Abbey, among others.
There is also an Abbey, one of the few remaining Tudor Monasteries, which became the home of William Fox Talbot, a significant pioneer in photography. Entrance is not included in the tour price and visiting is optional.
The Abbey is open from Spring to Autumn, with more details available on the National Trust website.
