A Rainy Day Adventure at Stiegl Brauwelt

Our family trip to Salzburg was filled with historical sites and cultural landmarks, but the Stiegl Brauwelt Museum offered a unique twist to our itinerary. The rainy weather that day made it the perfect opportunity to dive into this indoor adventure.

Located a few kilometers southwest of Salzburg’s Altstadt, the Stiegl Brewery is nestled in a more suburban area, providing ample parking for visitors. We opted for the convenience of a bus ride, which added a touch of local flavor to our journey. Arriving 40 minutes before the English language guided tour, we had the chance to explore the gift shop, brimming with Stiegl products. The anticipation built as we browsed through the array of items, from beer glasses to branded apparel.

Immersed in Brewing History

The guided tour began at the gift shop, leading us through the brewery’s various sections. As we ventured into the heart of Stiegl, we were greeted by a fascinating display of historical artifacts, including bottles dating back to 1887. This glimpse into the past was a delightful way to start our journey, and it wasn’t long before we were treated to our first sample of Stiegl beer.

The tour was a sensory delight, with the aroma of brewing beer wafting through the air. Our guide expertly explained the brewing process, highlighting how traditional methods influenced the flavors we were tasting. The tour’s highlights included a visit to the barrel cellar, where special beers are aged in barrels that once held spirits like whiskey and cognac. The tour concluded with a generous offering of three beer samples, and we each selected a bottle to take home as a memento of our visit.

After the tour, we made our way to the Brewpub for a well-deserved snack. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, providing the perfect setting to reflect on our experience. The Stiegl Brauwelt Museum proved to be a delightful blend of history, culture, and hands-on learning, making it a must-visit for families exploring Salzburg.
