- Salzburg Cathedral - Saint Vergilius of Salzburg constructed the original cathedral, possibly on St. Rupert’s foundations, completed in 774 A.D. Over time, the cathedral was destroyed, rebuilt, and renovated multiple times. The current cathedral was completed in 1628 A.D. under Markus Sittikus, following plans by Italian architect Vincenzo Scamozzi. It was destroyed again during WWII and rebuilt in 1959. Roman ruins can still be seen in the church’s cellar.
