Unforgettable views!! - I decided to take my time exploring Uzbekistan, lingering in Samarkand for five nights—longer than most tourists might. While browsing TripAdvisor for things to do, I chuckled at a listing for a one-day trip to the Seven Lakes in Tajikistan, a neighboring country. Intrigued but hesitant, I debated booking it. I’m so glad I did—this adventure was nothing short of spectacular! The only concern I had was the border crossing. If you’re considering this trip, check whether your citizenship allows visa-free entry to Tajikistan. As a Canadian, I was fine, but the border process was a bit chaotic. What started as an orderly queue morphed into a chaotic cone-shaped crowd, which felt unfair. Just as I reached the front, a woman cut in with eight passports, delaying me by 20 minutes. Patience is key! Once across, I met my Tajik guide, Behzod, who was exceptional. An English teacher by trade, he communicated effortlessly and made the long drive engaging by sharing fascinating insights about Tajikistan’s history, its Soviet past, and regional dynamics with neighbors like Afghanistan. His knowledge transformed the journey into a cultural deep dive. The Seven Lakes themselves were breathtaking, each one unique. Starting at Lake 1, nestled at 1,600 meters above sea level, and culminating at Lake 7 at 2,400 meters, the scenery was mesmerizing. I snapped photos at every lake, each offering distinct beauty. Between Lakes 4 and 5, we stopped at a charming bed-and-breakfast, where outdoor canopy beds sat beside a rushing stream, framed by towering mountains. I instantly regretted not booking a two-day trip—I could have fallen asleep to the sound of that stream, breathing in the crisp mountain air. The drive included some thrilling moments, with narrow, high-altitude roads wide enough for only one car. But Behzod, an expert driver, navigated with precision, knowing exactly where to pull over for passing vehicles. This day was a highlight of my trip, blending adventure, stunning landscapes, and cultural immersion. I’m already planning to return next year for a two-day journey to fully soak in the magic of the Seven Lakes.

Professional and excellent. - The short trip to Tajikistan to the "Seven lakes'" was extremely worthwhile. The guide on site was an academic, which was not to be expected, and accordingly can report a lot on culture, geography, history etc. The whole trip went excellently and will not forget it anytime soon.

Great excursion.... - Great excursion. Beautiful place. Border crossing was straightforward but tedious. Drivers were polite. Driver on the Tajik side was very knowledgeable and bought us some tasty food. On the other hand, he was constantly calling and texting on his cellphone while driving, and he made three personal stops: pharmacy, ATM, and car wash (!). Hence the four stars instead of five. Anyway, I recommend the company and the excursion.

Odd experience - Odd experience. Two days before going from Samarkand to 7 lakes, I texted the company for details and nothing. The night before some random number contacted me because Oriz was "without internet". It was a bit weird as we were dropped from person to person and no one knew the next person (including during border crossing). We were staying one night in Panjakent. We were dropped at a hotel and the person had no idea who we were or if we had a reservation. We were to do a morning tour and that was "canceled" suddenly and we had to return to Samarkand. They did bring us to the 7 lakes, in a comfortable car and that was OK. However, I was alone, if I were with my family this would be impossible to recommend.

Poor communication and short notice cancellation - The communication with the tour company was poor. There was an issue with the border the day before my tour. I asked several times if my tour the next day was going to go ahead. I heard nothing until around 5pm when I was told to cancel my tour for the following day even though I had already paid. I booked a different tour with another company for the following day. The border was open and the tour went ahead with the other company. I cannot recommend booking this tour as the communication was poor and my tour was cancelled last minute even though it was possible to visit the lakes the following day with several other tour companies.
