Ancient City (Mueang Boran) - Ancient City Muang Boran
The Ancient City, also known as Muang Boran, is an expansive open-air museum designed in the shape of Thailand. It showcases numerous significant structures such as temples, palaces, and the remnants of ancient cities, reflecting Thailand’s history from its early days to the present.
The structures are replicas of the originals, scaled down to about one-third of their original size. However, some buildings are the original ones that were dismantled and reconstructed in the Ancient City Muang Boran.
Located in a vast park in Samut Prakan, approximately 30 kilometers from Bangkok, visitors can explore Thai history and culture from various empires and kingdoms that once thrived here, such as Lanna, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, and Rattanakosin.
Preserving Thai National Heritage
The Ancient City was established by Thai millionaire Khun Lek Viriyaphant, who also founded the Erawan Museum in Samut Prakan and the Sanctuary of Truth temple in Pattaya. Khun Lek created Muang Boran to safeguard Thai national heritage for future generations. With numerous historic sites scattered across Thailand, Muang Boran offers a comprehensive overview of Thai history, architecture, and culture in just one day.
Don’t forget to bring your camera, as there are countless beautiful photos to capture here. Muang Boran is a serene and tranquil place, reminiscent of a large archaeological site, where one can easily spend an entire day.
