• Stargazer “Citlali” Statue - Mexican artist Pedro Reyes introduced this sculpture in 2022. Notice the star in the figure’s hand? Crafted from marble, it symbolizes various concepts. While it represents the Lone Star state, it also signifies a literal star in the sky, admired by numerous cultures throughout history.

• Labor Plaza - As the name implies, this plaza is dedicated to San Antonio’s labor history. It is filled with intricate details honoring labor movement figures over the years. The spiral walkway features the poem “So that Our Crossing May Never be Obstructed” by San Antonio’s former poet laureate Octavio Quintanilla.

• La Villita Historic Village - Now a charming arts district, it holds significant historical importance. This was San Antonio’s first neighborhood! When reaching the large set of stairs on the left, pause for a moment. Simple homes were built here along the San Antonio River’s banks.

• Main Plaza - This plaza follows the traditional Spanish design used for most major New World settlements: a large cathedral on one side, plaza on the other. During the Spanish era, it served as the settlement’s central hub, hosting town meetings and vendors.

• San Antonio City Hall - As you walk, admire the impressive San Antonio City Hall on the right. This building dates back to 1891, but the land it occupies has a much longer history. During the Spanish period, the site of City Hall was the center of the Main Plaza.

• Presidio San Antonio de Bexar - When the Alamo was founded in 1718, the Spanish also constructed this presidio. Soldiers were stationed here to protect the mission and the growing town from Native tribe raids or bandits. Initially, nearly 50 soldiers and their families were garrisoned here.

• Spanish Governor’s Palace - The Spanish Governor’s Palace is approaching on the right. For a closer view, turn right at the upcoming corner to see the building’s front. Built in 1749, it was originally the residence of San Antonio’s military commanders. Later, it became the primary residence of the Spanish governors of this province.

• The Alamo - On March 6th, 1836, General Antonio López de Santa Anna launched a full assault on the Alamo. By then, a few reinforcements had managed to join the Texian position, but they still numbered just over 200 against Santa Anna’s thousands.

• The Esquire Tavern - The Esquire Tavern opened in 1933. For those familiar with American history, that year is significant: It marks the end of Prohibition! The Esquire opened to celebrate the repeal of those laws. The 100-foot bar in this lavish establishment remains the longest bar in Texas to this day.
