100% Recommend - The wonderful experience of visiting Palenque allows for a perspective of Colombia not often spoken about, but 100% necessary to know. Victor was excellent in his honest explanation of the history of Colored people in Columbia. The food was delicious, well worth the long scenic ride. I recommend bringing extra tip money. I wanted to give more than I had on me. To support the young dancers, chefs and support the community.

Beautiful Day in Palenque - Our guide Victor was born and raised In Palenque. On the 1.5 hr ride from our hotel to Palenque, Victor shared the proud history and culture of Palenque. He advised that during our visit, we would experience Palenque through language, food, music, dance. We walked Palenque’s streets, watched and participated in a performance, visited the home of a local merchant and ate a DELICIOUS lunch. I couldn’t recommend the tour more. 10/10

You won’t find a more passionate tour guide and immersive experience!! ¡No encontrarás algo más apasionado o imersivo! - I booked this the night before and it is a top experience I had in Cartagena. The drive there was professional, safe and beautiful to see outside the central area. My guide was Danilo and his son Carlos. They provided cold water and an umbrella for shade. They both would switch off and explain the history and meaning behind things. Danilo was extremely well-versed in African and local history - down to the dates from 1600s to current events. The vibe was like a “welcome home” and they tried to make sure I was comfortable and immersed. We had activities based on the 4 pillars of their patrimony: music, language, candy and ancestral medicine. I got to play the drum, sing, dance, make and try candy, speak and do a toast with the local medicine man (such genuineness and ancient wisdom passed down orally). Lastly we shared a traditional meal outside his family home, that his kind family made. Overall, I left feeling connected and grateful. Me proporcionaron agua fría y una sombrilla para sombra. Ambos explicaban la historia y el significado de las cosas. Danilo era un experto en historia africana y local, desde el siglo XVII hasta la actualidad. El ambiente fue como una "bienvenida a casa" y se aseguraron de que me sintiera cómoda e inmersa. Tuvimos actividades basadas en los cuatro pilares de su patrimonio: música, idioma, dulces y medicina ancestral. Pude tocar el tambor, cantar, bailar, hacer y probar dulces, hablar y brindar con el curandero local (¡qué autenticidad y sabiduría transmitida oralmente!). Por último, compartimos una comida tradicional por su casa, preparada por su amable familia. En resumen, me fui sintiéndome conectada y agradecida. ¡Se lo recomiendo a todos!

Don’t wait, book now!! Wonderful experience! - Excellent tour and excursion! We learned so much from a beautiful hands on approach to immerse us into the Palenque culture. Rich heritage, traditions, and history!! Our tour guide was extremely accommodating and the fact that this tour option was through his family business made it the more special and inviting. We left with an unforgettable experience that I would highly recommend, especially for those with roots in the African Diaspora. The heat was a lot, but worth every drop of sweat lol. Our guides were mindful to provide umbrellas and water throughout the whole tour. They even included air conditioned transportation with pick up and drop off from our Airbnb. The dancing, authentic meal, cooking lesson, and murals around the town were my favorite parts of this tour.
