El Chiflon is beautiful, the lakes were only ok in my opinion. - It was a long drive to El Chiflon - only 72km but it took 2h20m as the roads are not good and there are Hundreds of speed bumps. El Chiflon is a stunning place with lots of very photogenic waterfalls and bright blue, clear water. There are several snack shops and vendors. I regret not going for a quick swim to cool down after hiking to the top. I was not as impressed by the Lakes. We were only brought to two lakes and I was hoping to see the different coloured lakes but these were just like normal lakes you could see in Europe. The first one we were brought to place where the only things to do are but food or pay for a small raft tour. You could not swim (unless you paid for the raft to take you to islet in the lake where you can swim but you have to wear a life jacket to swim) and there were no hiking trails or horse rentals. So basically you had to go on the boat if you did not want to spend 2 hours in a car park. The second lake was also normal but it was near the Guatemala border. It is much colder at the lakes. If I had my time over I would just go to El Chiflon and save another 2 hours of driving. Be aware that the driver does not speak English. And that the tour moves at the pace of the slowest members.
