Setting Sail on the USS Midway

As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for experiences that can captivate both adults and children alike. The USS Midway Museum in San Diego had been on my radar for quite some time, and I finally had the chance to explore this iconic aircraft carrier with my family. We wandered through the galleys, officer’s quarters, and even the engine room, marveling at the intricate workings of this naval marvel. The museum does an incredible job of preserving the history and stories of the 225,000 sailors who served on the Midway, and it’s easy to imagine the camaraderie and challenges they faced while at sea.

One of the most memorable parts of our visit was the panoramic view of downtown San Diego from the flight deck. Despite a brief rain shower that had us seeking shelter in a Chinook helicopter, the experience was nothing short of magical. The rain couldn’t dampen our spirits, and it was a unique opportunity to bond with fellow visitors as we waited for the skies to clear.
