A friend of mine booked a cruise for our group on a Monday evening -- a rare chance for us to enjoy time off given our non-traditional schedules. We were genuinely excited to experience a relaxing evening on a boat with a hot tub in scenic Mission Bay. Unfortunately, our experience was severely impacted by the unprofessional and disrespectful behavior of a young staff member named Nico. We arrived 30 minutes early, as instructed, but found no clear signage to direct us. Within moments, a young staff member -- later identified as Nico -- shouted across the lot, "Come on guys, are you coming? Time's ticking!" Not exactly the warm welcome one would expect when arriving early and eager for a reservation. We walked over, brushed off the odd tone, and waited a few minutes for the rest of our group to arrive. Despite our punctuality, Nico's impatience and clear frustration were immediately apparent, with frequent eye rolls and an exasperated demeanor. Once everyone was present and had quickly filled out their waivers (we were still on schedule), Nico began giving instructions, addressing our group with unnecessary hostility. He then clearly asks, "Who's driving? I've got to give you very specific instructions." Our driver comes to the front of the group and he begins addressing him. He then snaps and says, "Am I just talking to ONE person? I need everybody to pay attention! You guys are making this very difficult. It SHOULD NOT BE THIS HARD!" -- despite the fact that everyone was standing quietly, respectfully, and fully attentive. The tone was uncalled for and created immediate discomfort. At no point were we even being loud, obnoxious, or annoying in any way. We were completely calm, SOBER, and normal people. What followed was a rushed and barely coherent safety briefing, including the alarmingly blunt statement, "Don't go out into the ocean, you'll DIE." This kind of phrasing, paired with his continued sarcasm and aggressive delivery, felt completely inappropriate for the setting. Rather than being informative or professional, it came off as condescending and hostile -- as though we were being scolded, not welcomed. We boarded the boat quietly, hoping the experience would improve, but Nico's attitude persisted. Even during safety instructions, he questioned our attentiveness with sarcastic remarks such as, "Are you guys listening? Did you get that? Do you even care?" Again, no one was speaking -- we were simply listening in silence, unsure how to respond to his rude and accusatory tone. Furthermore, he simply asked our experience sailor/driver if he's ever driven a boat before, he kindly responded with a "Yes sir." Nico sternly told him not to call him sir. The cruise itself, to be fair, was lovely. The boat was clean, the jacuzzi was a fun touch, and we had a great time navigating the bay and enjoying the deck lights. We followed all given instructions, remained respectful, and even returned to the dock 5-10 minutes early to avoid further interactions with Nico. Unfortunately, he met us with more eye rolls and dismissive behavior upon our return. Our group's coordinator felt compelled to address his behavior directly and let him know that his service and attitude were unacceptable. We weren't rude -- we were honest. Feedback like this shouldn't be necessary, but in this case, it was warranted. To add insult to injury, I later contacted the business regarding a misplaced phone, and a helpful employee named Vicky informed me that Nico had submitted a four-paragraph report accusing our group of being disruptive and non-compliant. This was not only inaccurate but deeply disappointing, considering how hard we worked to remain respectful throughout a needlessly tense interaction. We followed every direction he gave, despite being treated in a way no paying customer should ever experience. While we made the most of our evening on the water, the young staff member - Nico's conduct left a lasting negative impression. Unless he receives proper customer service training or is no longer involved with reservations, I would be hesitant to book with this company again. It's a shame that one employee's poor attitude could tarnish what should have been a memorable experience.
