The Naval History Bay Tour route takes visitors under the Coronado Bay Bridge, Naval Base San Diego, and then Naval Amphibious Base. The Swift Boat Captain and Crew then head back by the aircraft carrier basin and Naval Air Station North Island before returning to the Museum. Your tour includes a high speed run to feel the unique power of the Swift Boat. • PCF 816 Swift Boat Naval History Bay Tour

PCF 816 serves as a powerful tribute to the dedication and service of numerous Swift Boat sailors, offering visitors a deeper insight into their sacrifices. The Swift Boat Sailors Association transported the PCF 816 Swift Boat to the Maritime Museum of San Diego for restoration and operation on San Diego Bay.

Visitors to the museum can now experience the sound and pulsating vibration of two V12 diesel engines, delivering 980 horsepower for high-speed runs through the Bay. Retired Swift Boat Sailors and docents share stories of life as a crewman in Vietnam, detailing roles such as Quartermaster, Gunner’s Mate, Engineman, Radarman, Bosun’s Mate, or Skipper.

Initially, the Navy deployed these boats for coastal patrol as part of Operation Market Time, aiming to intercept seaborne supplies headed to the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese Army in South Vietnam. Subsequently, the boats ventured into the rivers and canals of the Mekong Delta and the Ca Mau peninsula to carry out special operations.
