The Mopan River was a major trading route of the ancient Mayas and you can get to travel the river the way the Mayas did. The river is very scenic and it’s the best way to enjoy the flora and fauna of Belize.

You’ll have the river all to yourself - Wonderful kayak down the river - didn’t see another sole - but lots of birds and iguanas. Took a swim at the first rapids but then got the hang of it. Edwin is a fantastic guide and even showed us a local hotspot for lunch

Edwin is a 5-star local guide - Edwin’s attitude and professionalism made the adventure lot’s of fun. He made sure we were safe in the canoe and while he says nature is not his area of expertise, he pointed out birds, plants, trees and even bats, and perhaps more importantly his keen eye was evident as he’d spot a 3 inch green iguana 50 feet up a green tree!
Compared to the taxi’s we used, his vehicles were modern and clean with dashboards that were not lit up like Christmas trees!
We were so impressed with the trip that we went with him to Xunantunich, Barton Creek Caves and Tikal; since this is in Guatemala, he has curated relationships with guides in that country.
