RAINBOW VALLEY AND VALLEY OF THE MOON
Valle Arcoiris - The journey begins at Yerbas Buenas, a site of significant historical value, featuring one of the region’s most important collections of petroglyphs. This area was a crossing point for indigenous caravans traveling from northeastern Argentina and the Bolivian highlands to the Pacific Ocean. Visitors will encounter a diverse array of rock carvings and drawings, including llamas, camelids, birds, monkeys, and dogs.
Next, the tour proceeds to the renowned Rainbow Valley. Here, there will be a stop to stretch and explore the area on a 1-hour round trip. The valley is named for the vibrant colors of its rocks, which are due to the various minerals they contain.
After a brief guided tour with explanations and time for photography, the group will move to the Salt River area, where a small valley offers a scenic walk. The tour concludes with a return to San Pedro de Atacama.
Valle De La Luna - Known as the Valley of the Moon, this area is characterized by its striking rock formations shaped by erosion, salt flats, the Dune Major, and views that evoke an otherworldly landscape.
The tour includes a journey through the valley, visiting its famous rock formations: the Three Marys, the Canyon, and the Amphitheater. The experience culminates with a sunset view from the Licarantay viewpoint, where the desert’s colors shift dramatically, framed by large volcanoes on the horizon, creating a breathtaking spectacle.
HIDDEN LAGOONS TOUR OF BALTIMACHE AND LAGUNA CEJAR TOUR, OJOS DEL SALAR AND TEBENQUINCHE
Lagunas Baltinache - The hidden lagoons of Baltinache offer a chance to use the facilities before continuing the tour. The path leads through seven lagoons, with only the last one suitable for bathing. The high salt content allows for a floating experience similar to the Dead Sea. After exploring this attraction in the Atacama Desert, the return journey includes a stop at the entrance facilities for restroom use. The tour concludes with a sunset view in the desert before arriving back in San Pedro de Atacama.
Laguna Cejar - The tour begins with a visit to the famous Laguna Cejar and Laguna Piedra, surrounded by vibrant green and yellow grasses that accentuate the turquoise waters and volcanic backdrop. Visitors can enjoy a swim, experiencing the floating effect akin to the Dead Sea. Facilities with dressing rooms and showers are available for changing and rinsing off salt.
The tour continues to the Eyes of the Salt Flat, two deep freshwater wells in the desert, followed by a visit to the Tebinquinche Lagoon. Here, a walk along the path offers stunning views where the sky meets the desert and the salt’s whiteness.
TOUR RED STONES AND ALTIPLANICA LAGOONS
Piedras Rojas - The tour begins with a hotel pick-up to visit the famous Tropic of Capricorn and its breathtaking views.
The next stop is at Red Rocks, a quintessential desert landscape with uniquely red rocks shaped by geological phenomena. This is an ideal spot for photography. Known as Salar de Aguas Calientes, the site is reached by vehicle at an altitude of 3,800 meters, followed by a 1-hour and 15-minute walk to view the reddish rocks, lagoons, and salt flats in the area.
Lagunas Altiplanicas - The tour includes a stop at the Chaxa lagoon, a habitat for flamingos. The journey continues to the Altiplanic lagoons of Miscanti and Miñiques, where the guide provides insights into the local flora and fauna.
The tour proceeds through the town of Socaire, with a stop for photographs, before returning to San Pedro de Atacama, concluding at the Plaza Turistur drop-off point.
TOUR GEYSER DEL TATIO
Geyser del Tatio - Explore the third-largest geothermal field globally and the largest in the southern hemisphere, located in the Atacama Desert. At an elevation of 4,200 meters (13,780 feet), the Tatio geysers are a natural marvel that will captivate visitors.
The tour departs early in the morning, before dawn, with hotel pick-up. Arriving early at the geysers allows for witnessing the contrast between dawn and the steam from magma-heated waters.
After sunrise, enjoy a hearty breakfast featuring bread, cheese, ham, scrambled eggs, coffee, chocolate, milk, and jam. Following breakfast, there is time to explore the 80 geysers within the national park.
