Seismic introduction to the Geyser del Tatio - An early morning collection from our hostal by our friendly and accommodating guide Alberto, who happily guided us through our trip in both English and Spanish, taking time to explain the geography behind the story of the geysers, the significance of the geysers to the indigenous peoples, and also how we might react to being at a high altitude ~4,300m and what to do should any of us feel dizzy. The drive up the mountain pass in the morning darkness gave those of us sat near the window to gaze upwards into the night sky and the constellations. Greeted on arrival by a passing local Andean fox or paramo wolf, who stopped off on his early morning stroll to drink from a small pool of water, we then entered the park taking the short walk from the car park to the first of the geysers. It really is worth the early start to experience the steam in the very earliest morning light, which creates such an atmospheric feeling. Alberto took us across the park to the numerous geysers, providing plenty of time to observe the geysers and take photos. Afterwards, Alberto took us on a short drive to neighbouring high point for a light breakfast with bread, meats, cheeses and fresh coffee - but more importantly a spectacular view of the snowy high peaks of the Bolivian high plateau and the green valleys around the area where the vicuña grace. The drive back to San Pedro took in the beautiful landscape including a stop to observe flamingo wading through the lakes in their search for brine shrimp. Alberto helpfully explaining to us the various species of flamingo we were observing and the other bird life too. We were driven back to our hostal to conclude a fantastic day filled with spectacular views. Highly recommended!

Geysers OK, but Spanish!!!!! - The geysers were great, but the commentary mainly in Spanish, even though the guide could speak English. So a bit more English would have been appreciated.
