It was established in 1964 to return orphaned “apes back to the wild”. The centre was being administered by the wildlife section of the Forestry Department which in 1988 was upgraded as a department under the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Development. All administration and management was given to the new Wildlife Department of Sabah. At 10:00 am Proceed to Platform B, observe man’s closest relative a ‘the Orang Utans being rehabilitated to become wild in their natural habitat and experience a walk in the Tropical Lowland Dipterous Forest of Borneo and later watch a 25 minutes scheduled video documentary show.

Warmly recommend - The Best guide ever! She took good care of us and was very professional and polite. She also had interesting facts to tell about orang utans, sunbears and the wildlife in Malaysia and Southeast Asia in general. So much we saw and experienced!

- I enjoyed my day enormously. Saher, my driver, made me feel comfortable at all times, was as interested in the birds, animals and plants as me, and was full of information. The Rainforest walk was amazing, as were the Orangutans and Sun Bears.

Sebah. Sandakan. This trip is worth everything, it’s a must to see proboscis , macaques, orangutans and honey bears - Amazing days experience with Siti and her driver. Went to all the different areas to see all the different monkeys , apes with her
Truly a great experience. Certainly got up close at times
Might be hot very hot here in temperature but well worth all the driving around
What a day. I will never forget this trip

Fantastic Sandakan Day Trip - Fantastic day trip to Sandakan! We had a private tour guide and car who personalised and customised the tour to the things we had prioritised. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and was born and raised in the city. They brought us to an exceptional lunch spot and picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. Couldn’t fault the whole experience! I look forward to going back!

Sandakan Sep24 - We did not do an organised tour, we just had a taxi driver take us around and paid our own entrance fees, he was fantastic, you can definitely do all 3 in a day, If you go to the morning session at the Orangutan Park, and miss seeing the Larger ones in the wild, you can return for the afternoon session using the same ticket and give it another try, You will almost certainly see a sun bear, but the Rainforest Discovery park can really use up time if you are interested as there is a lot of walking options. You can always go back the next day. Joe - Sydney Aust

Great opportunity to see the Orangutan - Busy place but great to see orangutan free to roam. Was lucky to see them above the path as well as at the feeding locations.
Watching them interact, play and their agility was a fabulous experience.
Such gorgeous animals being cared for and protected.
Only caveat was hearing the elephants and not being able to see them.

Glorified taxi service - Got to visit the Orangutan sanctuary, sun bear Sanctuary (next door) and the rainforest discovery centre with entrance fees paid. Not really a tour but a taxi service as did not provide any Information or act as a guide. English was very basic and hence limited conversation. Lunch was at the on site cafe and given RM 100 (approx £20 ) for 5 of us to buy lunch ourselves.
Not good value and poor quality compared to other tours on Viator . We could have done ourselves using airport taxi

Cancelled by the travel company - Travel agent cancelled the tour the day before with no explanation.
They refunded the money but they still advertised the tour for the day I was supposed to go.
I ended up going by myself with was a fraction of the cost.

Do not book here. - Tripadvisor should take down the advertisements of this company. Also our trip was cancelled the day before in the afternoon and the telephone number provided is a dead end.
Better off taking a Grab and paying only a quarter of the price...
