- Hector Pieterson Museum and Memorial - On June 16, 1976, thousands of schoolchildren took to the streets of Soweto in protest after the government mandated Afrikaans as the language of instruction for subjects like Mathematics, Social Studies, and History.
Tragically, hundreds of children in school uniforms were shot and killed by the police. Hector Pieterson and Hastings Ndlovu were among the first to be killed, and many more children had to flee their homes to seek a better life elsewhere. Some children perished without trial, and to this day, there has been no accountability.
- Mandela House - Nelson Mandela once stayed in the back room of Walter Sisulu’s home before acquiring his own house in the late 1940s. This was his first owned home with Winnie until his arrest in 1963. Winnie managed the household while frequently in and out of prison, and at one point, the house was bombed by the police. It holds much of the struggle of Mandela and Winnie.
After Mandela’s release from Robben Island, he lived in this house for eleven days. Due to the constant presence of people wanting to see him, he had to move to a more private location.
- Vilakazi Street - Explore and engage with the locals of Vilakazi Street, the only street in the world where two Nobel Peace Prize winners, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and former President Nelson Mandela, lived on the same block and were friends.
Today, the street is a vibrant area full of restaurants and shops, offering a wonderful atmosphere rich in history.

Diepkloof Park - Established in 1905 as a colonial franchise, it was the first black settlement in the southwestern area of Johannesburg. In 1976, amidst the unrest in Soweto, the Propagated Faces was built.
-
Baragwanath Medical Centre - Established in 1941 during the Second World War, the municipalities of Soweto were compelled to build a hospital to assist with casualties from the Middle East. It later became the third-largest hospital in the world.
Today, it is known as Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
- Walter Sisulu Square - In 1948, the National Party won the elections, leading to the enforcement of apartheid laws. In 1955, women took to the streets to challenge these laws, meeting with Walter Sisulu to present their grievances and burn the “Dom Pas.”
Today, the current South African Constitution is adopted from the then-signed Freedom Charter.
