As the clouds roll in and the rain begins to patter, the region transforms into a haven for those seeking indoor adventures and cultural immersion. This weekend, with a high chance of rain and comfortable temperatures, it’s the perfect time to explore the indoor wonders of Santa Elena.
Start your day with a Farm Tour at 7:00 AM, where you’ll dive into the rich history of traditional farming in Monteverde. This tour offers a hands-on experience, allowing you to milk cows, pick fresh eggs, and savor a delicious traditional breakfast prepared by the family. The farm’s history and the family’s dedication to sustainable agriculture provide a fascinating backdrop to your morning adventure. As one reviewer noted on March 16, 2024:
Perfect family experience! - This was a perfect animal experience for the kiddos of our large family. Began early morning with some education on the history of this family-owned farm then some animal encounters and a hike around the property. Breakfast at the end made by family members was very very tasty. Loved that the family members themselves were with us during our time there. Thank you!
With the rain likely to continue throughout the day, this immersive experience is a delightful way to connect with the local culture and enjoy the warmth of a family-run farm.
Discover the Wonders of the Jungle: A Rainforest Adventure
For those eager to explore the natural beauty of Santa Elena, the Biological Reserve Tour offers an unforgettable journey into the heart of the jungle. Available from 7:30 AM, this tour takes you through the Children’s Eternal Rainforest, a vast conservation area that promises a deep connection with nature. As you traverse the trails, you’ll encounter a diverse array of flora and fauna, from vibrant birds to curious monkeys.
The tour includes a visit to the Pocosol Station, a scientific research center nestled alongside a volcanic lagoon. Here, you’ll learn about the region’s unique ecosystem and the ongoing efforts to preserve its natural beauty. The hike, though challenging, is manageable with the provided walking sticks and boots, ensuring you can fully enjoy the experience despite the rain. A review from March 8, 2025, highlights the tour’s appeal:
Great day in the Rainforest - We had a great day with our guide Harven in the Children’s Eternal Rainforest. We do a bit of hiking so the hike was not too strenuous for us. Even though there had been quite a bit of rain, the trails were manageable with the boots and walking sticks provided to us. Harven was very enthusiastic about showing us the environment in the forest, and we felt his love for the natural world. He also told some very funny jokes! The lunch included was delicious! One of the best we’ve had in Costa Rica. We recommend this “off the beaten path” excursion to see a different side of Costa Rica!
This tour is perfect for those who wish to embrace the rainy weather and experience the jungle’s vibrant life.
