Faro di Leuca - Located at Punta Meliso, where the Adriatic and Ionian Seas converge, stands one of Europe’s most iconic lighthouses. It is the second tallest lighthouse on the continent, only surpassed by the ancient port of Genoa’s lighthouse.
Designed by engineer Achille Rossi and inaugurated in 1866, it replaced an older structure commissioned by Frederick II of Swabia in the 13th century. Its octagonal tower, made of local stone, rises 47 meters above the ground, reaching a focal height of 102 meters above sea level.
The lantern emits intermittent light every 15 seconds, visible up to 25 nautical miles, with red and white beams that have guided sailors returning from Africa and the Middle East to the Italian coast for generations.
From the sea, viewed from a boat, the lighthouse appears as a white, vertical, solitary figure above the promontory. It serves as the visual landmark for the entire coast of Leuca. -
La Grotta delle Tre Porte - The most renowned and photographed cave in Leuca. Three large natural arches open onto the cliff, resting on two pillars, leading to a single vast internal cavity.
Seen from a boat, it is breathtaking: the white rock splits into three perfect openings.
Inside, the first Neanderthal fossil from Salento was discovered, the molar of a ten-year-old boy, the southernmost in Italy, along with remains of elephants and rhinos. The inner cave features spectacular light displays and a seabed with sea urchins, starfish, and crustaceans.
Accessible only by sea. -
Grotta del Soffio - One of the most picturesque caves on the west coast. Its name comes from the unique phenomenon: when the sea is rough, the air compressed by the waves inside the cavity is forcefully expelled from the opening, creating a powerful breath, sometimes a spray of water that rises upwards like a geyser.
With calm seas, the cave is silent and crystal clear, with a clear and transparent seabed. With rough seas, it transforms into a memorable sound and visual spectacle.

Grotte Marine Di Leuca - Porcinara: The only cave excavated by humans. An ancient Messapian sanctuary, later Greek, then Latin. Votive inscriptions to Jupiter, Venus, names of ships, and sailors are found on the walls. Accessible from the ground.
Morigio: Hidden and difficult to reach. Also known as the Lovers’ Cave: entry is by swimming underwater. Legend has it that the Moors hid here before attacking Leuca.
Cazzafri: A Greek name meaning “house of foam.” Three caves with stalactites and natural arches. Spectacular light displays at sunset.
Giants: Pachyderm bones found inside. Legend has it that giants slain by Hercules are buried here.
Nativity scene: A series of low arches reminiscent of the Nativity. Visited only with calm seas.
Dragon: Approximately 40 meters deep. The stalactite formations at the entrance resemble a dragon’s head. Legend of a sea monster that terrorized fishermen.
The River: A freshwater spring that flows into the interior. Sandy seabed with spectacular light effects.
