• Parque Colon - Columbus Park serves as the central plaza of Santo Domingo’s historic area. Here stands the statue of Christopher Columbus, for whom the square was renamed in 1887.
• Catedral Primada de América de Santo Domingo - Dedicated to St. Mary of the Incarnation, this cathedral is the first and oldest in the Americas. Its construction began in 1504 and spanned 46 years.
• Calle Las Damas - Known as the “street of the ladies,” this is the first paved road in the Americas. The 16th-century architecture lines the narrow street, featuring colonial buildings now functioning as museums, embassies, and luxury hotels.
• Fortaleza Ozama - Built by the Spanish in the early 16th century, the Ozama Fortress is the first permanent military structure in the Americas, symbolizing the start of Spanish colonization. The fortress resembles a medieval castle and includes a 69-foot tall central tower.
• Pantheon of the Fatherland - Guarded by a presidential honor guard, this 18th-century Jesuit church serves as the national mausoleum of the Dominican Republic, housing the remains of heroes like Gregorio Luperon, Salome Urena, Jose Nunez de Caceres, and others since 1956.
• Reloj de Sol - This 12-foot tall stone clock has stood in front of the Royal Houses Museum since 1753 in the colonial city. It was used by government officials to track time.
• Casa del Cordón (Museo Taíno) - Located in Santo Domingo’s Zona Colonial, the Museo Taíno Casa del Cordón is a cultural museum situated in one of the oldest European stone buildings in the Americas (constructed around 1503). Visitors can delve into the history and heritage of the Taíno people—the island’s first inhabitants—through numerous artifacts and interactive exhibits, while also experiencing the fusion of indigenous culture and early Spanish colonial architecture that shaped Dominican identity.
• Plaza de la Hispanidad or Spain - Situated at the end of Calle Las Damas, the Plaza de España is a delightful and romantic esplanade in the heart of the Colonial City. On one side of the plaza stands the magnificent Alcazar de Colon palace, while on the other, a series of outdoor bistro terraces offer diners a breathtaking view of the ancient city. It’s undoubtedly one of the most picturesque spots in the area.
• Ruinas de San Francisco - The San Francisco Monastery consists of rustic walled ruins in the Colonial City. It was the first Franciscan monastery in the New World and has a storied past. The ruins were damaged by a fire set by Sir Francis Drake and several earthquakes. It later served as a mental asylum until the mid-20th century.
• Hospital Saint Nicholas of Bari - Built between 1503 and 1508 under Governor Nicolas de Ovando, San Nicolas de Bari Hospital is the oldest hospital in the Americas and served as a prototype for others. Today, it lies in ruins on the north side of Hostos street, known for its picturesque scenery and home to pigeons.
• Alcazar de Colon - This is the first fortified European palace in the Americas. Constructed between 1510 and 1514, it predominantly features Gothic and Renaissance styles. It is recognized as the only known residence of a member of Christopher Columbus’ family in the New World, specifically his first-born son Diego Columbus.

• The Alcazar Colon and the Pantheon are currently closed for renovations, you will see them from the outside
• Museums are closed on Mondays, so we won’t be able to visit. However, we’ll still share all the relevant information with you.
• We offer free admission to one museum and the cathedral. Access depends on the museums’ schedules and may be affected by unexpected closures that are out of our control.
• You will get a chance to try local beverages like mama juana and purchase souvenirs.
• The guide may rearrange the itinerary sequence for a better experience
• Visitors to the cathedral (closed on Sundays must wear clothing that covers their shoulders and knees.
