• Hōheikyō Dam - The tour commences at 11:30 from Sapporo Station, starting at the Hoheikyo Dam.

The Hoheikyo Dam is situated deep within the Toyohira River valley, marking the entrance to Shikotsu-Toya National Park, southwest of Sapporo, near the Jozankei Onsen area. The reservoir lake formed by the dam is a serene, turquoise mirror reflecting the mountains, providing a stunning contrast to the towering dam wall. In October, this area becomes one of the premier koyo (fall foliage) locations near Sapporo, with vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows adorning the mountainsides.

Hoheikyo Dam offers breathtaking panoramic views. The walking trails (The Dam Loop Trail, Dam Crest Walk) are easy, paved paths leading to the dam, lake, and surrounding forest trails, making them suitable for all ages.

• Hoheikyo Onsen - The next destination is Hoheikyo Onsen, located just down the road. Hoheikyo Onsen is more than just a bath—it’s a deeply relaxing experience amidst Hokkaido’s pristine nature. Whether after a walk around the dam or as a day trip from Sapporo, it’s the perfect way to unwind in Japan’s natural healing waters. The water here is gentle on the skin and suitable for all ages. The waters at this onsen are particularly beneficial for improving blood circulation and relieving muscle and joint pain, among other health benefits.

Visitors to this onsen will experience one of the largest outdoor baths in Hokkaido. The views are stunning year-round, with autumn foliage being the most captivating season to visit and soak here. Gender-separated indoor/outdoor baths with modern comforts are available.
