- Myakka Canopy Walkway - The Myakka Canopy Walkway offers convenient access to explore the vibrant life within the treetops of an oak and palm hammock. Serving as an outdoor laboratory for research and education, it is a place of discovery, allowing visitors to closely observe the inhabitants of the canopy. Completed in 2000, this structure is recognized as the first public treetop trail in North America.
The walkway is elevated 25 feet above the ground and stretches 100 feet through the hammock canopy. The taller tower rises 74 feet into the air, providing a breathtaking view of the treetops, wetlands, and the prairie/hammock interface. Visitors can gaze down upon eagles, hawks, vultures, and the tops of live oak and sabal palm trees.
